Default Any problems with Da'Lan hitch/Tire Tail?

I'm seriously looking at getting a hitch and trailer/Tire Tail for carrying my autocross tires around. Da'Lan seems popular, but I'd love to find a hitch that was a bit less obtrusive. Anyone got recommendations for tire-carrying methods (if my present plan is no good)? I did a search on trailer hitches, but didn't find anything particularly recent...

I have owned all three available hitches for the s2k (DaLan, Gendron, Hammerly). I never installed the DaLan, because I didn't want to drill holes in the trunk floor. IMO, the Hammerly is by far the best of the three. If drilling holes is not a problem, and you don't need/want the hitch to be removable, then the DaLan is less than 1/2 the price of the other two, though...

Stay away from tire tail per others with blown rear shocks. I have Delan and it works great. Can use it for a std. bike rack which is the official use of the hitch when I,m at the dealers. Harbor freight tools has 2 trailers that make perfect tire trailers. Bill Grendon is in his shop this week and can get you one of his removable hitches. www.smallfortuneracing.com. Mr. Hammerly is working to hard to fill a lot of orders today. Check libary for more info under tire trailer.

Good thinking Tedow!

I suggest that you also add a Solo I bar and you'll be in business. There's still two races at Talladega, and one each at CMP, VIR, and Roebling Road coming up this year.

I was hoping to go with a Tire Tail b/c I have room to store a stack of tires, but a trailer would be a bit more difficult. Thanks for the Gendron link, btw. $450 though...ouch.
You can search for Tire Tail and find several threads. Here is but one of many...

The other important issue is the type of force the tail exerts onto the hitch. A hitch is designed to pull, the tail will load up the hitch with high twisting forces, a load a standard hitch was not designed to endure.

You can save some serious money here ($200.00) by substituting the heavy plastic Contico box from Home Depot for that aluminum box.

I would have gotten the double walled plastic box if I could. It was not availabel. I have used Thule double walled ski boxes on roof of vehicle for many years. The doubled walled plastic box is theft proof unless attacked with a chain saw. It is much easier to break into car or steal the trailer than to break into a double walled locked plastic box. Note, Thule now only sells single walled boxes due to extra costs and weight of making the double walled box. Even the single walled box is tough to break into. You can always insure your special stuff by purchasing an "inland marine tool & equipment floater" from your friendly independant insurance agent.
