AS and ASL in TX?
Based on the first day of competition, Jason is in third with cone trouble and Joe Goeke has a nice lead in a RED S2000.

All cones aside, Jason was running really well, turning great times, as were Juliann and Brad. It's really great to watch these guys at work! I expect that today will be a blast as well...
Watch for updates...if they aren't posted anywhere else, I'll post them here later this evening!

In the end, Joe's time would have put him 3rd in SS, and If I hadn't coned both days, I would have been 4th in SS and 2nd in AS. But that's not the whole story. This was a VERY difficult course to drive fast. It was very, very fast... on Saturday I actually took a sweeper, slalom followed by a sweeper - all in third gear in VTEC.
It was some serious white-knuckle stuff. Add to that a 400hp, 380lb-ft monster Z06 vette, and I can only imagine how scary it was. My point is the only driver up to the challenge was Erik Strelnieks... he walloped the rest of SS by 2.4 seconds, and was 3.7 seconds faster than Joe in the AS winning car. I feel this definitely proves that the Z06 doesn't belong with the S2000! No offense to any of the other vette drivers, but Erik has had the vette for 8 days and smoked everyone - simply put, he's the best driver east of the rockies to strap on a Z06.
I'm pretty down about my coneage from this weekend, and getting beaten by Joe who was on the stock shocks - but Joe is an amazing driver and proved it. I've got some practice to go. But my raw time was actually quicker than his on Saturday, so I know I'm right there. On Sunday, I had fuel starvation in the fastest part of the course that sent me out of control - crappy run. Second run, the car was uncontrollably loose - almost spun several times, then finally spun at the end. Even with a spin, I turned a 100.3 which was faster than several AS cars. My final run, we made the right shock change, but it was too little too late - I had a decent run, but by that time Joe was really cooking... he had a 92.5 to my 94.1 on Sunday, but I had a cone to boot on my last run (stupid mistake). So I came in 4th with !!!!FOUR!!!! seconds added to my time. Without those 4 seconds, I would have been about 1.5 seconds behind Joe, and without all our problems on Sunday I'm sure I could have come closer, if not taken it.
Oh well... next time. 2 weeks to the Lubbock ProSolo, and hopefully I can regain some pride! I want to thank all the S2K folks that came out to watch us this weekend. The Texas group is a great bunch of people, and I only wish we could have given you a better show. Thanks for everything, guys, and if you ever want to come up to Chicago you know who to call!

Interestingly enough, Joe said Steve's car felt a lot like his... sure makes ya think how much shocks really add to the equation! As Ron & I know, screwy shocks defintely take away time...
And it Team Butt Heat's defense, Joe also had a faster run on Saturday with a cone, so he did nip Jason by a bit either clean to clean or dirty to dirty...
Still, I know how darn good he is, and the setup issues you were sorting through with new shocks, so you did really well! I'm impressed...

I could definitely have done better - after spinning my first two runs on Sat, I needed to back off and get a clean one in the books for the day. And I did good enough - I was only .3 sec behind Gregg Lee and the last trophy spot.
Sunday was just as fast and again, I got into trouble due to the higher speeds. My first run was clean but slow. My second got stopped because the car in front of me spun on course. Then I spun on my re-run. Finally, I had a good run going on the last one, but I got off line and into the gravel, and the car just plowed way out on a slow corner.
I really feel that I could have driven 2 sec faster both days if I could have put together a good run on each day. That would have moved me up into 4th or 5th place behind Joe, GH, and Jason (had he cleaned it up). That still would have left me 5 sec behind the winner, but at least I would have felt good about my driving

Oh well, so there you go - my list of excuses
"If I only had one more try", "Just wait til next time", ...Bench racing at its best.
