AS and ASL in TX?
Jason,
A couple of things - doesn't Joe drive Gary Thomason's car? - If so it has Koni 28 series shocks.
Also - Erik Strelnieks did have his new shocks on the car - this helps explain why he was so much faster than the other Z-06's ( besides his high speed road racing experience )- he might be the only one with the hot shocks.
BTW - Nice showing to all!

Joe's car (the ex-Thomason-mobile) was sitting in his driveway all weekend, I personally saw it since he lives only a few blocks away. He was driving Steve Sucsy's car, which only has a front bar, no shocks.
Wow - thanks Banannie!
Kind of makes me wonder how much of a difference those shocks make - particularly as I've been toying with the idea myself!!

Parts of the course were fast. However, Joe did not use third gear on his best run on Sunday. The attention getter was not so much speed alone, but taking full side load turns and offsets at well up in second. You have to look a long way ahead (hundreds of feet) to pick your line.
Also let us not forget that Sunday ended with two slaloms, tight and tighter. (I took the tighter one in 1st gear on my best run Saturday.) I personally think I lost more time Sunday fouling up in those two slaloms than anywhere else. It's hard to back off and be patient for a final slow tight maneuver.
Slow parts of the course take up a lot larger percent of total time that you might think. Or said another way they contribute a lot more to total time than they do to course length.
And now that I think about it, Jason spun once entering them on Sunday, and hit cones in them Saturday, so they were not kind to him either.
And the course was long, complex and a lot of work. The really steady drivers can do it with no serious mistakes. Spearcarriers like me are going to find something to foul up every time on a course that long and complex.

Glad you guys all did so well. but we did not hear from Joe Goeke (the winner!!). does he post on this site? if you do, i'm curious to hear your perspective on the event. ur obviously a very good driver. other than the front bar any mods to the car?
Joe just jumped into the Honda world in late March, I'm not sure if he's aware of the site. He bought Gary's car since he believed it was superior to the Anna's Boxster they ran last year. He & Anna are in the Cayman Islands right now, relaxing, so don't expect any input from him in the near future! (no, I'm not jealous, really I'm not!) Ron spoke with him late Sunday, and that's where the comment of "it feels a lot like my car" came from. Last I checked, the Steve was on the site (lurking?), so he can comment on his car setup much better than Joe.
I talked at length with Joe at the event with regard to the shocks because I was a bit surprised that the car was as good as it was. I knew Joe would be tough, but though that with the Penskes I would have a better chance. It seems we didn't quite have the settings right on the shocks, which is one distinct advantage to the stock shocks... you can't mess up the settings!
Joe and I agreed that the car works quite well with the stock shocks... It is a bit harder to drive fast, as it's definitely more twitchy, but it's not any slower with the stock shocks. He mentioned that the custom shocks would give you more consistency because the car feels more comfortable, but he and I were both surprised at how little the car seemed to benefit in lap times when fitted with shocks. We'll see as we get the Penskes dialed in, but I think the car works just fine on stock shocks with a big front bar. Joe has certainly proved that... And given everyone a goal to work on with their driving.
I hope he brings his Stook to the Lubbock Pro instead of the Boxster so we can truly compare the cars on the same track. It will be interesting to see if he's way faster than me in Gary's old car - although we should get quicker as we figure out the shocks. It promises to be a fun event! Especially since Roger Johnson is designing the courses!
VTEC anyone?
And thanks for the compliment, Annie...
And I forgot about that 90.7 by Joe. Although he got 5 runs on Saturday (2 reruns - one thanks to my cone) and I only got 2 - a spin, rerun (spin) and then two runs. Sunday I just plain sucked, and Joe had a ton of confidence - which is why he walked my in time. At least we learned something about the shocks.

hey Pete!
Looks like ya made it back from Texas all right.
Hmm... I guess your minds made up? I'm so glad we could be a bad influence on you, "c'mon Pete just take The Mistress for a spin, just once won't hurt..."
It'll be great to have a blue stook on the over6racing team!
