This is a good example of the Zig Zagging or Christmas Tree course that I'm referring to. There is no straights ... just turn, straight, turn. Using the middle and maybe one or two of the triangles is ideal without going very deep into them. That way, you can create some challenging straights, slaloms, lane changes, etc. Just my .02 though, but based on this design, I wouldn't be interested in attending.

ok i will try and get a different track set up but i dont think I will be able to pull any weight on something like this. I will try and draw another map on a set up like this to see if they will buy it.

No worries, have fun and don't stress. I would attend anyway if it were closer, just with another car. I posted this on our local forum. The vette guys are pretty exited, they love point and shoot courses!

It’s hard to get a sense of scale of the course. When I do a course I try not to do any turns smaller than 50ft. radius, or slaloms tighter than 60ft. spacing, if it’s only a 3 cone slalom I will do less, but a 4 cone slalom with 45ft spacing is painful.

I am not going to the event. Just some input on course design.

I have a pdf of Roger Johnson’s Solo Course Design handbook. If anybody wants a copy PM me your e-mail and I will send it to you. I think it’s a must read for anybody doing course design.
This handbook is also a must for anyone interested in designing courses in our local region.

Version 5.0

The one I have is the 2006 version, I will have to read the new one to see if it has any changes.

Thanks

Edit,

You may want to give the handbook its own thread, a lot of people will not look here. It’s good information. I would do it but I cannot add attachments.

My S2000 is going back up on blocks this weekend so no Peru for me. I MIGHT decide to go Sunday and use the E30 just to hone up on skills.

I was glad to see that one branch was skipped for a slalom, but would like to see another one skipped and put in a series of "Blythevile lane changes" or a wallom.

If the course gets a good tweak, I might come up for just a Saturday run as there is a local even on Sunday... But, if the course looks to be great one, I might skip the local and stay for Sunday... since I would already be there.

Um, if all goes well... Your car will be done with a week to spare.

There are several "ifs".
..If my car is happy (long story - smokes like a freight train on hard right handers)
......if the course design tempts me to make the drive
..........if my co-driver doesn't want to go, you bet!!!

If I go, at a minimum, you can take a ride with me and get an idea of how my unusual setup feels. I always get a kick out of people's surprised response on how well my car behaves and how it rotates... in spite of my configuration. However, I must admit that we are still tweaking things and trying to get everything where we want.

-Dave

Edit: pic added of my 1st if.
