Default Autocross Stock Class Brake Pads

Alright fellas, i am in the market for new brake pads and wanted to post a new thread on this topic. I have searched and found some old information. The links in the FAQ's have some really good info but i think it is dated. Link 1 and Link 2

After reading through them it makes me want to go out and buy the Cobalt GT Sport pads. After further searching they had some quality issues and i believe they are no more. I think the most recent replacement for those is the Cobalt CSR but i have not seen anyone post about them. Maybe to many people got burned and are not willing to try Cobalt again.

I know pads are more of a personal thing, but i don't want to reinvent the wheel on something that is working well either.

Pads i am considering are:

Hawk HP Plus
Carbotech AX6
Ferrodo DS-2500
OEM AP1 or AP2
Satisfied Gransport GS5
Axxis Ultimates
Others?

Some might say that you can't go wrong with any of those. I would like to hear who uses what and why. Any good or bad experiences with specific brands.

This format was taken from one of the posts in the FAQ links. This format posted by teamking, and i modified it slightly. I thought it would be useful for people to continue to post in this format.

1. Autocross performance. What do you like or dislike about it.

2. Dust.

3. Cold performance (street).

4. Rotor wear.

5. Cost.

6. Noise, etc.

7. Approximate lifespan if known.

8. Other information you think would be useful for others to know.

Thank you for your participation.

Endless NS97, I've had em for a while now, the feel is very linear, almost like stock but has a much higher heat range. Actually used them for a track day, I took it easier than I would have with my carbotechs but they held up just fine, no fade at all, even braking from 120+ down the straight away. Dust is nill, they blow Hawk HP plus and axxis ultimates out of the water in the dust category. HP plus seem a little grabby when cold, which some people don't like.

Tony,

I run oem AP1 stock brake pads, and love them. They are great for autoX in my opinion. They stop very well both in warm and cold environments, are very quiet and have minimal dust. They have good, predictable feel and can be modulated. Do they have the most stopping power available? Definitely not. But for a 60 second run, even for a guy like me that does a ton of left foot braking on course, they work very well. I've been driving on them daily for 22,000 miles, almost 2 years with a ton of autox's and I have a ton of pad left everywhere. If you want race-pad bite and stopping power, they will not compare, but they are definitely a high performance brake pad that actually likes a little bit of heat. The track guys would disintegrate them in a hard track day, but you'll obviously never see those temps or abuse in an autox.

good luck-

Nick

Stock pads, here. No noise. i have Carbotech's i use for the track, very noisy by comparison and much more expensive.

if the pad is strictly for auto-x, personally, i don't see the need for anything more aggressive, even in the hardest braking zone on and auto-x course, we're not breaking down from high enough speeds to warrant that much bite.

I've got an '08 CR with 16,000 miles and many auto-x runs on them. I'm still on the original set of pads, so you can't beat the bang you get for the buck.

I've been using the HP+ and they've been excellent. Lots of initial bite and stopping power. They work great even from cold. I forgot how good they were and how much I like them until I drove a car with stock pads at a school last year.

That said, they do dust quite a bit (especially in an autox condition with lots of hard braking) and they do make a fair bit of noise. IMO, these are fair tradeoffs.

In terms of wear, I've had them on the car for 2.5 years with autoX almost every second weekend during the summer on Hoosiers, and around 20,000 miles of street driving and I'd say they are probably around 50% worn.

I just ordered and received AP1 front pads for my '06 AP2 from Majestic Honda for autox/street use. I ordered 45022-S2A-000 which is the original AP1 front pad PN. What I received was 45022-SVB-A02. I know the OEM AP2 PN is 45022-S2A-E50. I have already tried a fresh set of these and believe the AP1 pads are better which agrees with Nick's recommendations here. My question is this: Are the 45022-SVB-A02 pads the same as the 45022-S2A-000 pads? Should I return the 45022-SVB-A02 pads and order the S2A-000 pads from somewhere else or are they discontinued? Should I go ahead and try the 45022-SVB-A02 pads? After trying Cobalt Friction CSR pads (track only!), Hawk HPS pads (no bite), and OEM AP2 (OK but not as good initial bite as AP1 pads) recently and have not been happy with any of them, I want to get it right this time. Thanks for the help!

This feedback is based on my personal experience. In terms of autox, id say the ax6 would be the best choice, for a dual purpose street/track pad id say the pmu hc+800 is the best bang for the buck or the stoptech street performance isnt too bad for the money either because they're so cheap. Axxis Ult used to be brought in by centric/stoptech but they replaced that compound w/ their own street performance pad.
