Moving up to NorCal, I like SpeedVentures in SoCal. What HPDE organizers are good up there?

If you can get in with them (it's a private club), I really liked driving with Checkered Flag Racing Association. I wasn't so impressed with the NorCal Shelby Club, but mainly because I didn't like their "point-bys optional" rule.

The weekend events with NASA are okay, but a little crowded. The mid-week events are great as there are not a lot of cars and you get tons of track time.

why would you not like point by optional? was it anywhere? Speedventures is optional point by anywhere in the advanced group (red) and required only in turns in the medium advanced group (black).

I'd avoid nasa like the plauge. They suck for HPDE, err most everything.

NCRC, Trackmasters, and CFRA (talk to blackey here if you need info) are good events

i run in the black group and the obligatory point by is a nice thing with slower cars. if they need the point by rule it probably means they do not have enough car control/confidence to allow for safe dive-bombing.

note to self - nasa bad

It was in the lower groups, and it was the Shelby Club, with a lot of high HP, low corner speed cars. Basically it just led to an experience of many of the people on the track racing you to not let you by. I think the optional point-by just encouraged this "let 'em pass me if they can" attitude.

If I wanted to sign up for a W2W series, I would just do that. At an HPDE, I expect the drivers to be cooperative rather than competitive, and I felt the Shelby Club was not into that.

YMMV.

In general, though, I don't like point-by optional. If people are good drivers, they won't hesitate to give you a point-by anyway. If they are bad drivers, I don't think I want to be passing them when they might not know I'm there. I don't see what is to be gained by it.

We've got more track clubs up here than you can count. I personally like CFRA as it's a fun group.

The ones I would look at

CFRA
NCRC
TEAM
TrackMasters
