Default Racecar Project

Hi everyone. I’d like to present my AP2 that I got couple of weeks ago. The car is strictly for road racing. The car was built but some things are still to be done in order to consider the car 100% race-reliable. The car had been sitting for 4 years; I test drove the car at the track last week and fell in love with the cassis. The balance, turn-in, response, sound, feel, etc. are all great in every aspect. The car has AEM2, modified cylinder head such as springs and valves, modified oem intake manifold, OS Giken LSD, 4.56 gear, Ohlins custom coilovers, APR rear wing, headers and exhaust (I don’t know the brand yet), Enkei rpf1 17x8, everything needed for proper track alignment, Porsche calipers.

Before I go into suspension tunning, corner balancing, and getting more power. I would like to make sure I have the proper parts in order for the car to sustain racing conditions and not fail mechanically. I’ve been searching the past couple of weeks and I see some of the main concerns are drivetrain failure. Tranny, diff, rear axle problems. Crazy enough, the first time I tested the car, the tranny broke on lap 15, but I will fix it next week since I have a spare.

Questions and comments:I will upload some pics. I was hoping that you guys could help me determine the brand of the exhaust and headers, maybe also let me know if the driveshaft does have the spacers or not.
1- What are some things that I must do in order to protect the car’s tranny and drivetrain under racing conditions? Should I get the drive shaft and half shaft spacers? Tranny mounts? engine mounts? diff Bushings? Etc. My main concern is durability right now. After the car reaches a point where its reliable, then I will start fine tuning.
2- I had someone sitting on the car (engine off) and shift thought the gears, and I could see the engine moving when he shifted onto each gear… is this normal?
3- Brakes: the car has Porsche brakes, I read some people say that the cylinder should be replaced by one stronger. Any recommendations?
4- How do I know the extra rear sub-frame that came with the car is AP1 or AP2? I understand that they are different.

Just wanted to present my car and at the same time get pointed in the right direction. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Here are some pics.

Thank you in advance.

puddymod racing sells a higher capacity diff cover which holds more fluid

more fluid == longer lasting diff

1.
Spacers should only be employed to help get more running life out of axles that have developed the "ruts" in the inner cups which lead to on-throttle vibration.
All the rest of the mounts are something that don't NEED to be replaced but should sooner than later if its a track only car.
2.
If there is some significant movement even with that there torque damper installed, the actual motor mounts are likely imploded on themselves. A visual inspection should tell.
3.
dunno. never seen that caliper on this car. That's a rabbit hole this forum likes to go down though so it should get interesting soon.
4.
Upper control arm bushings are wider on AP2. If they are the same width as the front uppers, then it is an AP1 subframe.

Excellent, thanks

I have stock mounts, I will replace them all. What do you recommend for engine and tranny mounts? I've used hasport before on another car with success.
