Default BSP SOLO II setups?

Ok,
So everyone knows what you need for AS SOLO II. What about people trying to run in BSP?

What suspension setups/alignment/wheels/tires are people using?

How about engine/exhaust modifications?

Thanks.

What are people running in BSP? Corvettes!

Sorry, couldn't resist. And, I haven't seen any S2000s running BSP out here.

That's exactly what I thought when I read the post

Anyone with springs or coilovers who autoxs a S2000 is in BSP. Some people must have tried to be competitive in BSP.

Typically, a winning BSP time is around 1.5 seconds faster than a winning AS time. So a significantly prepared S2000 running in BSP might have a chance?

Im thinking along the lines of:

properly setup JRZ 3ways, swaybars, extremely aggressive alignment, better LSD, the stickiest/freshest tires, ti single exhaust, straight pipe, intake, EMS with nice tune(maybe something with 225hp at the wheels?) some weight savings (race seats, ti exhaust, JDM BBS wheels, AL coilovers etc).

I wonder if that would allow you to knock a ~second off a AS car's times?

Nobody's even tried?

You could also do an '04+ transmission in BSP due to update/backdate.

properly setup JRZ 3ways - Triples won't be substantially faster than properly valved and tuned doubles which are already on the top AS cars.

swaybars/springs - There is definitely some time here. You'll lower the car and be better able to balance it, but you won't be able to solve the bumpsteer problems in SP.

extremely aggressive alignment - Already on the AS cars.

better LSD - You have to use the stock housing - is there an option available on the market that fits in the current housing?

the stickiest/freshest tires - Some time to be made here, but the only tires that don't increase your gearing are the 245/35R18 and 285/30R18. These come with large 18" wheels that are heavier than the stock 16". If you try any other combination of tires (in 16", 17", or 18") you will hurt your gearing (and acceleration).

ti single exhaust - Already on the AS cars.

straight pipe - Maybe a small improvement over an S2000 with a cat, but you may also lose midrange torque.

intake/headers - I think the Mugen intake/header adds about 10 HP and some midrange torque.

EMS with nice tune(maybe something with 225hp at the wheels?) - I'm not current with the state of NA tuning on the S2000. Is it possible to add 30 HP just with ECU tuning on the S2000?

some weight savings (race seats, ti exhaust, JDM BBS wheels, AL coilovers etc) - The seats are pretty light already - you may save 10 lbs per seat. See above about the wheels. The top AS cars already have AL shock bodies and BBS wheels.

So there are some opportunities for improvement, but my feeling is that you won't gain 1.5 sec with the above changes.

Agreed on all counts but one... since when have we had midrange torque to lose?

Sure, make fun of the mid-range torque...you'd miss if if it were gone!

SP may allow for wider tires and wheels. More rubber to the ground = more grip.

I too don't see making up 1.5 secons over a well setup AS car.

What about SM2? Final drive would be awesome

But I wonder if there really is that much more time to get from a NA S2000. Shocks generally gain you 1/10ths not seconds - so if you consider the $$$$ shocks on the nationally competitive cars, and go all out with full shock spring packages on the BSP cars, are you really gaining more than a few 10ths. With the shorter gearing in the 04+, they show no significant speed increase - so that shouldn't help that much.

I come from the E36 M3 world, I remember how going to CSP (then ESP, then BSP), helped so much because it was a camber challenged car that could then gain camber and *gasp* turn! Still, except when driven by a national superstar (Tunnel), it doesn't regularly beat the C4
