#Gridlife Street Class Time Attack Build

UPDATED 4/16/18, Title updated accordingly (Not so BUDGET anymore ha). Also new name for the class.
Hi all! My name is Jackie, I'm currently based in Ann Arbor MI, you might have seen my video chasing down the Type R being featured by S2Ki, so I thought I'd show you guys what I've been up to with this daily/project 2007 GPW S2000.

I am running in the lowest tier, HPDE+ (RENAMED TO 'STREET' FOR 2018), in #GRIDLIFE TrackBattle series. Rule book here: TIME ATTACK RULES — #GRIDLIFE, but basically, stock body line (no overfenders), 285 width, 200+tw tires, no aftermarket forced induction and no aftermarket aero (OEM replica allowed). Coilovers allowed but only single-adjustable allowed. Also car has to be registered with insurance and have full interior. Perfect for me, since I need my S2000 to act as both an effective track car and reliable daily.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...658e0482bb.jpg

The first event of the year was at Mid-Ohio. To be honest I didn't really commit to the event until 2 days before, and the car was in as near stock condition as you could imagine. The only mods are a staggered set of Michelin PSS (225F 245R), Project Mu HC+800 pads and 335 Fluids, CR front and rear sway bars, and a Hondata Stock-Tuned Map. Stock exhaust, AP2V1 wheels, stock suspensions, stock everything else. Being Mid-Ohio, there was a lot of heavy braking zones and the car didn't like it one bit. Every session, I'd have only one flying lap before the brakes go straight to the floor, and somehow I still banged in a 1:45.24. Not a clean lap, but it was the best that I could manage, and it ended up being enough for a 3rd in HPDE+ RWD class, losing out to a 350Z and a Lotus Elise, both on 200tw RE71R. With how little preparation I did, I was reasonably happy, but definitely had a lot to do to make the car more competitive. Video link to my weekend recap + flying lap

First task, sort out the brakes and suspension. I bought a set of CR shocks with Swift Springs from the lovely Facebook Marketplace, and a set of new Enkei PF01s in 17x8, with 245/40-17 RE71R tires. The theory was to save as much unsprung weight as I possibly could, to help get out of corners that little bit faster (P.S. That was in May. I was too stupid back then to know about sidewall flexes ha). A pair of Spoon Sports underbody crossbars were added to increase stiffness, and some new Hawk DTC brake pads (70 front 60 rear) with Stoptech fluids and brake lines. An LHTPerformance Master Cylinder Brace was added, and also an Ingalls Engine Torque Damper to reduce the chance of a miss-shift. To further improve the car's driveability, I found a used Sparco Evo seat and 6-Point harness. To use the harness, I went with the BalladeSport roll hoop with built-in harness bar. I know there's been some, uh, discussion on the product for sure, but at the end of the day I was a little too reluctant to drill all kinds of holes in my car.

As far as power goes, I took off the factory exhaust in favor of a used Greddy Ti-C & ebay test pipe set up, but even that was more for the sake of weight reduction rather than all out power. I did purchase a K&N intake from a friend, but he still needed it so I didn't bother. New Motul Gear 300 oil were put in to the gearbox and the diff to ensure they don't go bang, and last but not least I robbed a friend of his Seibon CR-style carbon rear wing. I finished off with a custom alignment set at -2 camber 0 toe front, -2.5 camber 0.14 toe in rear, and the removal of every single trim piece beyond the roll hoops and into the trunk. Now then, my car was ready for the challenge...

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...648caafd44.jpg

For the second round of the five-event championship, we went to GingerMan Raceway. I know the track reasonably well, and was mildly confident. The 350Z that beat me at Mid-Ohio could not keep up with me, as he could only manage a 1:45.4 against my 1:43.6, but it wasn't to be a victory. In fact, my best time was only third in HPDE+ RWD, 2 seconds behind a 2015 Mustang Five-O and a second behind a C5 Corvette. Even though my car was quite a bit nimbler, these big old 'Murican V8s had way more power (in the mustang's case, 440WHP) and wider, meatier 285 width tires. Regardless, I was relatively content, since I was able to take down numerous 350Zs and an E46 M3. With two 3rd place finishes out of two events, I was determined to go higher on podium next time out.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...b13f31963e.jpg

The 3rd event of the season came to Autobahn Country Club. We had to run all 3 configurations (North, South, and Full) and have the 3 times added together, similar to a rally stage. The short 2-week turnaround means I hadn't done much to the car, except for some new Buddy Club Lower Ball Joint that allowed for a wider track and even more camber. I dialed up the fronts to -3 degrees, and accidentally set the .12 degree of toe out on the front to toe in... Obviously it's not ideal, but I decided to stick with it instead of messing everything up myself. The battle was very, very tight. The Mustang from last round had the acceleration and top speed, but it was no match against my S2000 in the high speed corners. By the end of North and Full course, I had pulled a surprising 1.7 seconds lead, and another blinding lap on South meant I took the win in HPDE+ (AWD included) by a massive 2.3 seconds. Maximum Attack had paid off!

In 2 weeks, we will be traveling south for the world-renowned Road Atlanta. Obviously there's not a hope in hell of me beating the Mustang, considering I have a 240 horsepower deficit, but I do know Road Atlanta well and the first half of the half is where we will be making up ground. I have picked up a second-hand Mugen hardtop and an eBay CR-style lip for some aero improvement, while the soft top will likely be removed for weight reduction. I also acquired a set of Tein Type Flex coilovers with the awesome EDFC II system, allowing me to adjust dampening while out on track. It's far from the best, I know, but for $400 it's hard to say no. I will keep updating this thread and add in more pictures as more upgrades come in, but in the meantime please let me know of any suggestions/comments! I'll be out there showing them, power isn't everything!!!

UPDATE #1 9/1/2017
#
Gridlife TrackBattle Round 4: Road Atlanta

Toughest weekend in the S2K yet. I love RA, but the long long long long long long loooooooong back straight does not favor a 210WHP car ha, especially when your main competition is a 440WHP Mustang...

In order to tackle the challenge that is Road Atlanta, we had a few upgrades in mind. First off, the much-touted K&N FIPK Intake and PLM header were purchased (on a budget as always) and installed. The lack of heat shields on the header is a minor worry but I really want to squeeze every ounce of power out of this engine before Atlanta. After some research, I changed the Stock-Tuned map on my car to the Toda-Header map, also offered by Hondata. A custom tune is definitely coming, don't worry. To improve aero, a Mugen-replica hardtop was installed with the soft-top removed for weight reduction. A new CR-rep lip is screwed & duct-taped on for a little more front end grip at the high speed esses. Meanwhile, the CR shocks with Swift Springs were taken off the car to make way for a set of cheap coilovers: Tein Type Flex with EDFC II. Now yes, they are not the best dampers by any stretch of the imagination, but the EDFC system gives them a lot of adjustability on track, making track time more efficient. Final upgrade comes in the form of a set of DIY (and cheap) brake ducts, with help from Brian of BaoHouse Racing. Yes, that blue thing was an oil funnel LOL.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...cd8c27ce48.jpg

With the upgrades completed, we rolled off towards Georgia. In case you were wondering, I drove the S the full 11 hours from Michigan to Road Atlanta. And back. No trailer involved.
Unfortunately, we struggled with an electrical issue on the first day. Long story short, I had no ABS and the rear locked going into Turn 10...

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...e4430142ce.jpgRIP Pilot Super Sport
A new day, a new pair of underwear, and we all good. A blown ACG fuse was found, and with it replaced the S was back in business. A few scrappy sessions later, I banged in a 1:41.9, enough to put me 4th in class, behind the Mustang and a pair of Porsche Cayman (one GT4 and one Cayman R). On the last day, I first improved to a 41.6, which is still 1.1 seconds off of a podium position. On my final lap of the final session, I was slightly held up by a Nissan S13, but still managed to improve my PB to a 1:40.5. It was a close and intense battle for 3rd, but I came out on top by 0.039 seconds over the Cayman R.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...9051e43b0e.jpg

So then, at the end of Round 4 of 5, we have three 3rd and one 1st. We are heading back to Gingerman Raceway in the middle of October for one more showdown, and I will for sure give it everything I've got. And after that, the car will be converted back to stock suspension for the long winter that is coming...

KEEP THOSE SUGGESTION FOR 2018 SEASON COMING! Loving it. Oil Baffle definitely on the list, as well as 17x9 and 255s. Thanks everyone!

UPDATE #2 11/9/2017

With the season over, we now focus on the long Michigan winter and the upgrades that will be happening. Firstly, I will be shaking down the custom-valved Stance XR1s this weekend at NCM Motorsports Park and can't wait to see how a set of proper suspension will change the car.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...6afb2cf04d.jpg

As for other upgrades, I have purchased a Braille b2015 battery (OEM one is bad and need replacing) and BalladeSport Bolt-in Oil Pan. The car is scheduled for a tune by MSpec Tuning in Chicago in 2 weeks, so the valves were checked (and found to be perfectly within spec) along with new spark plugs. There will be another coming soon.
Also: a rather iconic livery is being planned for the car and will be DIYed over the winter. It's far from complicated but I think it'll be well worth the effort. Very excited!

UPDATE #3 11/25/2017
The new Stance XR1s changed the car COMPLETELY. The best way for me to describe is a feeling of stiffness and response: whereas before, when I turn the steering wheel, the car will have to take a moment to load up and grip, that feeling is now gone. Now as soon as I give any steering input, the front tires would just grip and go. The responsiveness and directness of the front axle is exactly what I've been looking for. Even during high-speed transitions, the car is never skittish, but it's just sharp and focused. I absolutely love it.
Meanwhile, the car had been strapped to a dyno and Mikey from MSpec Tuning has worked his magic on it. From a baseline (on the Toda Header Map from Hondata Flashpro) of 192 WHP, Mikey squeezed out 215 WHP. Max Increase of 23 and a lot nicer looking in terms of smoothness.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...6198144eac.jpg

CAN'T WAIT to get back on the track and test out the difference! This thing will be completely changed for sure. 13.1% power increase is incredible.
More updates to come...

UPDATE #4 12/11/2017
THE RULES ARE OUT!! The HPDE+ is now official renamed STREET Class. Sounds a lot better for sure!
TIME ATTACK RULES — #GRIDLIFE

A few interesting rule changes that will affect us in Street Class:
1. new MSRP rule: "Vehicles with inflation adjusted MSRPs greater than $70,000 are specifically banned (eg. Nissan GT-R, Porsche Cayman GT4, C6 Z06, etc.)"
- GREAT. I definitely do not want to race against those things...
2. Tire Size rule: "Tire Width: FWD: 285, RWD: 285, AWD: 255. Tires may only be downsized 10mm."
- Also to try and block out the OP cars such as C7 Corvette Grand Sport. Leveling the playing field is always a good thing.
3. Changes to Aero rule: "Aftermarket aero is prohibited. Modifications to OEM bumpers to enhance airflow are permitted, but only partial removal of material, not addition."
- Time to cut that rear bumper for less drag!! Any ideas on how I can trim the front bumper for more performance?

The rest mostly stays the same as this year. Still, a few interesting areas that we can maybe exploit and etc...

A separate and also special announcement:
BMSPEC will be sponsoring me with their prototype front splitter and rear wing in preparations for a move to StreetMod Class in 2019! Link to their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/bmspec1/
Their new Hammerhead front splitter looks freaking awesome, and has the added benefit of easily uninstallation for converting my car back to Street Class spec. I will be using their aero and attempt to break the current NA S2K record around Gingerman Raceway: 1:40.0. Currently working on a provisional schedule, but expect a few events outside of Gridlife too...

UPDATE #5 3/27/18

Just as any college student would for their exam studies and homeworks, I have finally gotten the S2000 into the shop for prep before our first preseason test on 4/7-8 at Gingerman Raceway!

List of things to do:
Pull Front Fender to fit new wheels
Rear ASM-style fender flares
New brake pads (maybe rotors) and fluids
Rear Buddy Club Lower Ball Joints install
Chase Race tow hitch install
Mishimoto oil cooler & oil catch can Install
Whiteline 30mm front sway bar install
Trimming rear bumper
Stickers & Livery

First off, my racing wheels and tires...
This season we will be using Konig's brand new flow-formed Dekagrams in 18x9.5 +35. I like the look of these wheels and while they may not be as light as the TC105N's, they are much, much, MUCH cheaper. For the price that Konig offered to the Gridlife Gold Pass holders, it's pretty much a no-brainer.
Meanwhile for tires, I will be using the newest and greatest tire to come out of Japan, the Yokohama Advan A052, in 265/35-18. It'll be very interesting to see how this new tire will stack up to the "Jesus Tire" RE71R, but since mine will be in different sizing I cannot offer any direct comparison.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...9e82e12e1f.jpg
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...143a60c477.jpg

Brian from Baohouse has already mutilated my less-than-pristine fenders to fit these meaty tires. ONLY JUST!

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...dfe82419da.jpg

The same will be done to the other side, while the rears still needs to be cut and have fender flares added.
Meanwhile we have moved onto dealing with the oil cooler and catch can. My DIY intake pipe has had to be moved around to make space. Living that Bosozoku life, yo.

MORE UPDATES SOON TO COME! Go fast time is upon us...

UPDATE #6 4/16/2018
Well, this past weekend was the Gridlife TrackBattle Season Opener, and wow... WE WERE FLYING.
First off, the new Marlboro McLaren Honda inspired livery looked awesome on the S2000!

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...dc0bd9d4c0.jpg

The competition weren't messing about, either. In Street, we had Corvette C7s, E46 M3s, Porsche Caymans, Evos and STI's, and FK8 Type R's. Most were running RE71R's so you know they were pretty serious. Was I worried? Not really.

The weather didn't really want to play ball. Rain was forecasted all weekend long, but luckily Saturday morning held out long enough for us to all get at least one dry session in. So the pressure was on to delivery the fastest lap possible in the short 15-min session. And boy did we nail it. Whereas the best that the Corvette and the rest of them could only manage a 1:40.9, I blitzed the field with a 1:39.098, nearly 2 seconds faster than the previous class record.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...02f0aee4f3.jpg

And just as we wrapped up that first session, the heaven opened and soaked the entire track. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to improve my time, because I really thought we could go a 1:37. But a win is a win, and that puts us in a very good place for the championship!

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...0f951aead0.jpg

Nice work! I highly recommend the Hasport engine mounts. They do a lot to clean up the shifter action along with improve throttle response. I have the 62A street durometer and had to bump up the base idle to 950rpm to prevent everything from shaking like an earthquake with the stock 750rpm idle speed.

starchland 08-12-2017 05:53 PM

What about oiling duties? Take it from someone who just lost their motor :(

Currently don't have anything planned; car has been running like a champ, but what would you recommend?

TunerD 08-15-2017 04:48 PM

I've been watching your videos before I even got my S! I'm actually semi-local to you as well. Perhaps an autox event one day?

A baffeled oil pan would be good insurance.

Ferrari812 08-16-2017 05:10 AM

I strongly recommend the RAIN H8R Valve Cover Modification; it is needed more than a baffled oil pan, especially considering the tracks you are running.

FZXtreme 08-17-2017 07:41 PM

I second the baffled oil pan and RAIN H8R Valve cover mod, making smoke screens isn't much fun for those behind you plus the extra assurance of no oil starvation is a good thing to have.

JackieD 08-30-2017 10:03 AM

Thanks guys, I'll put those on the to-do list!

Road Atlanta

update on Atlanta ?

JackieD 08-30-2017 08:43 PM

Writing now :)

RedCelica 09-01-2017 04:31 PM

I recommend a baffled pan as well. Great idea to prevent oil starvation. So why'd you go with 17x8s and not 17x9s?

JackieD 09-01-2017 05:42 PM

WELL... I went with that set up purely from a kinematics standpoint (because that was the point of discussion in my physics class at that time of year LOL). Smaller wheels & tires => smaller rotational mass, a little more braking performance and faster acceleration out of turns at the sacrifice of a little overall grip. Honestly, I have yet to notice any lack of handling abilities; outcornering every car I can see and getting left behind on the straights haha.

JackieD 09-01-2017 07:20 PM

Main post updated with Round 4 updates from Road Atlanta!

Jibarito 09-05-2017 05:47 AM

Well written bud this is entertaining to follow along with gives my HPDE build motivation making it work with minimal funds safely

all motor is life.

JackieD 10-17-2017 07:24 PM

Very much agreed. However, with the way the Gridlife rules are, forced induction will have to be the way to go from next tier upwards. Car will stay NA for at least another season, but after that... it'll be fun to find out!

JackieD 10-26-2017 09:52 AM

Well now that the actual season is over, I'll be starting the development of the car over the winter and document it all here.
First and foremost, I want to say Thank You to Stance Suspensions for sponsoring me and providing me with a set of new and custom-valved XR1. Spring rates are 14K front and 12K rear. I'll have a more detailed write-up coming soon.
A few more things planned/happening: a minor engine refresh with new air filter and valve adjustable is planned and on the way. A set of 17x9 +63 TRMotorsports C3s have been purchased, but I'll get the 255 tires for them come Spring. A custom tune to maximize the engine's potential will be happening in November.

Can't wait to get this off-season started!

nbauti2 10-30-2017 06:22 AM

Aw man, wish I knew you were looking for wheels. Have these 17x9 + 48 TRM C3's collecting dust.

aabatteries 11-07-2017 01:43 PM

If everything goes to plan, I'll be joining the fray in HPDE+ next year. Couldn't swing enough money to make the car competitive this year, just tires and brakes good enough to get seat time. So, hoping my financial situation is looking better when the time comes.

I've got all the valve adjustment stuff. We can do this track side in the morning if you'd like. Your car is 06+ right? If so, you should definitely take a look as it runs a bit leaner, so tighter settings can transfer too much heat to the valves.

Shameless self plug for hooking up some wheels :P.

Removing the cat and lowering VTEC engagement really helps improve the mid-range. Have you already purchased Flashpro?

UPDATE #2 11/9/2017 (The original post is updated too, posting this here for ease of access)

With the season over, we now focus on the long Michigan winter and the upgrades that will be happening. Firstly, I will be shaking down the custom XR1s from Stance Sunspension this weekend at NCM Motorsports Park and can't wait to see how a set of proper suspension will change the car.

Valve Adjustments have been done this past weekend (I say that, the valves were actually totally fine and did not need adjustments at all. At least they have been checked.
The wheels are great! Currently sitting cozily in my basement awaiting new rubber.
The car is already on a test pipe and has a Flashpro tune. Will be getting custom tune from MSpec next weekend.

Chibo 11-09-2017 03:27 PM

Let me know if your engine is more noisy with the Ballade tray.
Also, you only need to remove the two bottom bolts on the AC compressor, leave the thing bolted to the pan.

If I don't have to relocate for work I too will be joining you two in HPDE+.
Let's hope we make it a trio of kick ass S's at Gridlife next season.

Hope you can come join us! We need all the S2Ks we can get in HPDE+ to fight the V8s and E46 M3s hah.

You're gonna make me and my car look slow as a snail out there!

This was a great write up! Makes me want to get out to mid Ohio this year!

I'm too much of a novice to partake in time attack, but I'll be at a Gridlife Gingerman event for HPDE. Hope to meet some of you guys.

I don't know any Youtubers with an S2k, so unfortunately the star shock will go over my head. Regardless, should be a good season. I think my financial situation is starting to shape up and my chances of making it to multiple rounds of Gridlife are looking good if I don't get sucked in a Formula Vee or competing to win my region in NASA TT (both of these options would be just little more expensive than HPDE+).

@jackied; I'm picking up my S2K sometime this winter (deal is basically done). I live about 15 minutes from Waterford Hills; I'll be out there for all their Open Track days and probably head over to Gingerman and Mid-Ohio a few times next year as well. Lets get MI rockin' with some Honda love again.

I am a former Mazdaspeed guy, so I usually head down to Tail of the Dragon with all those hooligans in April as well. We should definitely get an events page for MI going again; seems kind of dead over there.

Hell yea! Waterford suited my S2K so well. Just get some good tires and brake and go. Gingerman and Mid-Ohio is awesome too. Kinda over street driving now though.

aabatteries 12-09-2017 05:52 PM

Track days are the quickest way to get over street driving. I'm so over it, I'm to the point where I want a freaking small SUV to daily.

Chibo 12-09-2017 07:10 PM

It comes back when you have a daily and only drive the S2000 occasionally on the street.

I was so glad to see the changes made for the street class. Never is fun against any of the cars they alluded to, they are in a class their own while being in your class. Would honestly like to see it the dollar amount lowered to like $50k, though.

You're absolutely right. As the rules stand, a Corvette 1LT with Z51 package is still within the rules ($66k)... Still, better than no price cap.

Ferrari812 12-12-2017 08:47 AM

The Boss 302 and fifth-generation Camaro 1SS/2SS are also fair game. :tipwink:

GT350 is actually out based on the tire size rule. You can only downsize from OEM tire by 10 mm to get into the 285s, but GT350 has 305 standard on the rear.
The Boss 302 and etc are allowed, which means we definitely need to step up our game if we want to keep fighting for wins.
One rule that will help us a bit more is that aftermarket overfenders are now allowed. I’ll be scrapping the 17x9 and 255 plan and go with a set of ASM rep fenders, 18x10 wheels and 285 tires. I won’t match them on the straights, but no way am I gonna lose in the corners. That’s the plan so far...

JackieD 12-22-2017 01:28 AM

A mini update during this long and unbearable off-season:

Wheels have been decided and purchased! In order to keep pace with the competition, we have upped the ante with a set of Enkei NT03+M 18x9.5 +40. In SHINY SHINY RED.
They will look absolutely phenomenal, especially paired with the livery which is partially complete (will be finished in warmer spring times).
I am currently holding off on making any announcement regarding my tire of choice. All I can say is, it's not the RE71R...

Earlysport 12-23-2017 02:07 PM

Your build looks to be coming along nicely!

Question though - why didn't you go with a wider wheel? Accepted fact seems that the wider the wheel on the same size tire is faster. I'm in the middle of doing over fenders and am looking at 18x10.5 or 11" wheels with a 285 or 295 tire.

cheers,

Earlysport

Thanks! While I do agree with the fact that wider wheels are faster, the availability and choices mostly seem to limit them to a much higher price range. I'd love to get a set, but there is always a budget... These new Enkeis are 1160 shipped.
Having driven two different S on 18x10.5 and 285, I can say they are awesome. I'd love to see how you get on with them.

BroxS2K 12-29-2017 07:47 PM

Nice vid! If that was Initial D style it would've been a DRAW ;)

JackieD 02-20-2018 10:01 AM

It's been a while since I provided an update, I am very sorry, but that's because we've been having big snow storm around Ann Arbor and my S2k has been mostly covered under the snow...

ANYWAYS! We have a little over a month before our shakedown around Gingerman is planned and then #Gridlife TrackBattle Round 1 @ Mid-Ohio the week after that. Still got a couple of things to do until then:

1. TIRES. I have got my set of 220tw tires for GTA Enthusiast class ready, but my new tires for Gridlife are still on the way. Also need to order a set of 245/40-17 RS4s for practice use.
2. WHEELS. I previously announced that I'll be using the Enkei NT03+M. Well... not anymore. Konig has stepped up for Gridlife full season participants and offered a big discount package, and I've cancelled the Enkeis for some new Konig Dekagrams 18x9.5 +35. I'd recommend you all checking it out.
3. WHITELINE FRONT SWAY BAR: Whiteline USA has come onboard to support me for this season! I'll be using their 30mm front sway bar & adjustable end links along with my new Reinharte (Stance USA) R1 Coilovers to challenge the corners. As everyone knows, a big front bar on a S2000 will almost always help, and I love a sharp and responsive front end. This will be a very helpful upgrade.
4. FENDER FLARES & PULL: Brian from BaoHouse Racing will be cutting up the rear fenders to install some lovely ASM-style overfenders, while pulling the hell out of the front fenders to fit out new meaty tires.
5. OIL COOLER, OIL CATCH CAN, REAR LOWER BALL JOINTS: Reasonably simple. For reliability and for handling consistency.
6. BMSPEC SPLITTER & WING: We will test fit these aero parts from BMSpec, before putting them to good use in Global Time Attack Enthusiast RWD this year. The wing and splitter should be shipped within this week!
7. LIVERY: We have finished the trunk part, and as soon as the overfenders are installed, we will finish wrapping the rest. Expect a solid looking car at high speed!

As the season gets closer to start, I'll be bringing more news and updates on this formidable Street RWD S2000!

scottdh20 02-21-2018 05:50 AM

good stuff... i have been checking out the konig selection as well.

Afterfire 02-21-2018 05:55 AM

Does that mean youre not going to be in the Street class at gridlife or are you just swapping trunks and removing the splitter for those events?

JackieD 02-23-2018 07:53 PM

I will still be running Street Class for Gridlife. The aero will help a ton in the 3 GTA events that I'm doing, but I'm not quite ready for Street Mod just yet!

I will also have the aero parts from BMSpec on the car for our attempt at the NA Street Tire S2K record around Gingerman. With just the CR aero we got to 1:41.6, so I'm obviously very confident that the current record of 1:40.0 isn't gonna be around for much longer. I WILL TAKE IT DOWN.

So you'll still just be running the CR aero for gridlife at Gingerman to remain in street class but running bmspec aero in other events to attempt the NA Street Tire record? Cool. I hope you get it, man.

Get a good dual pass radiator like this one:

Mr. Sideways x SBG High Performance Radiator - SakeBomb Garage LLC

You won't need an oil cooler. As long as you stay NA, there's no need to run an oil cooler if you have a quality dual pass radiator. I have no problems running 4x 25min sessions in 100F+ SoCal summers out in the desert. A few other guys that data log and that are much faster than me can back this claim up as well.

An oil cooler just introduces an extra failure point and adds extra weight up front. I believe it also lowers your oil pressure overall. Just keep your water temps under control, and your oil should be fine.

Thanks for the tip! Interestingly I've never had any water temp issue so the OEM rad can stay for a bit longer. I won't be staying NA for much longer ;)

Is there any info online for that Konig support for GL participants? A quick Google search didn't yield much. I was looking into picking up a set of Konig wheels, and if they're offering discounts that would be icing on the cake.

If you purchased a Gridlife Gold Pass this year, you should have received an email with the instructions. Unfortunately the deal is only available for Gold Pass holders and we have been specifically told not allowed to disclose any details about the deal...
Sorry I can't be of any help!

JackieD 03-27-2018 09:57 AM

It'll be very interesting to see how this new tire will stack up to the "Jesus Tire" RE71R, but since mine will be in different sizing I cannot offer any direct comparison.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...143a60c477.jpg

Brian from Baohouse has already mutilated my less-than-pristine fenders to fit these meaty tires. ONLY JUST!

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...dfe82419da.jpg

The same will be done to the other side, while the rears still needs to be cut and have fender flares added.
Meanwhile we have moved onto dealing with the oil cooler and catch can. My DIY intake pipe has had to be moved around to make space. Living that Bosozoku life, yo.

MORE UPDATES SOON TO COME! Go fast time is upon us...

I’ve got sufficient brake ducts for now! Pretty happy with my oil funnel-based duct intakes that cost less than 10 bucks.

Well... One week before our first event at Mid-Ohio, this happens...

Needless to say I was really really upset. Thankfully, it ended up being my oil filter and oil cooler sandwich plate coming loose. After i removed the loose plate, retightened the filter, and topped off the oil, the car fired right up.
However, I was experiencing some power loss right around 7k-8k rpm on the straights. There was a real inconsistency with the power, later confirmed by the AIM Solo data.
We've since done a compression test (225 210 210 220) and examined the spark plugs. All looked okay, but we'll be replacing the spark plug as a precaution.
My tuner, Mikey from Xenocron Tuning, has asked me to log some more data with my Flashpro before this weekend, but the tune doesn't seem to be the culprit.
An oil pressure & temp gauge will be installed this Thursday, as well as a K&N filter and a safety wire to make sure the same incident does not happen again. My friend had the exact same thing happen at the same part of the track, and his car caught fire. So I'm counting myself lucky for the time being.

As for #Gridlife Round 1 At Mid-Ohio this weekend, it's looking like it'll be very rainy. Anyone who's driven there will know, Mid-O in the rain is the absolute definition of "Tricky". Thankfully, I've had some experience with treacherous conditions, such as keeping a F4 car with a full dry set up on the track for 20 laps without a spin, but trying to go fast in the rain is a whole different story. Will keep you all posted!

I mean... I hope the F22C in the car is capable of working for a little longer! I dumped all my budget on wheels and tires.
Speaking of, the A052s felt awesome. No direct comparison since, the tire size is different (265 VS 245), the weather conditions is different (60s F VS 30s F), and my suspension set up has all been completely changed, but it did give me a lot more confidence to attack the corners. Sorry but no real concrete data from me!

Last time I was at Road Atlanta, I had a small oil leak. I thought it was coming from the oil cooler lines. I missed last two sessions of the day. Once I got home, I found out the oil leak was from a hair line crack on my K&N oil filter on the top side (so no debris impact). Just FYSA.

JackieD 04-16-2018 05:24 PM

I'll have the video of my record lap coming, so stay tuned!

Afterfire 04-17-2018 06:10 AM

JackieD 04-17-2018 07:59 AM

JackieD 04-17-2018 08:02 AM

Got the new record lap uploaded on Youtube! Completed with a Best Motoring-style Pedal Cam hahah. Still had a lot of time left in the car I think. Could've gone 38.0 easily if I had another session in the dry!

warmmilk 04-17-2018 03:45 PM

so engine is doing well? did the inconsistency with the power go away?

Mugen_is_best 04-17-2018 03:55 PM
