Default Burnt Coil Packs at the track.

Went to Buttonwillow a few weeks ago and enjoyed an amazing So Cal day dialing in the car.. Lap times were slower coming down around the 2:08:xx.. then all the sudden now power.. thought I blew the motor but idle was erratic..

finally had time tonite to pull the plugs and coil packs.. looks like #3,4 are toasted..

wanted to see if this is a common problem and what solutions have been taken in preventing future issues... Are you guys simply replacing with new OEM coils or are there aftermarket coils that truely work..

Thanks in advance for the info..

David

Were plugs #3 and #4 loose? That sometimes happens and the coil packs get toasty because of it....

One of the guys racing these advised me to not add a radiator shield because of his experience burning coil packs - any chance you had one? Something about how the stock shield allows a significant amount of air to flow over the top of the motor. Once removed he claimed no more burnt coil packs. Not personal experience just what was told me by a racer having personal experience....

Yeah, the shields block air flow over your engine, and direct 100% to the radiator. If you look at your stock shield, you will notice some channels that direct air over your engine to help cool it. Radiator shields ftl. Sometimes we should just trust the Honda engineers

What about removing the metal cover on the packs, does that help at all?
