The reason I posted in this section is that I have seen suspension drawings posted here several times so I thought I'd find users here.

I am looking for a Cad/cam software package for the non engineer. I have to translate hand drawn chassis and suspension pieces into the computer.

I don't know if the software can do other calcs, but it would be great if it would tell me what the chassis would weigh when complete and also show range of motion and bumpsteer in the suspension.

I have both Mac and PC platforms so can use either but if there's a choice the MAC is always the best.

 

I don't know the capabilities of modern graphics packages, but any solid modeling package should provide the results you want.

Of the modeling packages I've used, Solidworks was the easiest; although I learned it after using other packages, and it has been sometime since I've used anything else (Unigraphics, Pro-E, etc.).

I am uncertain of single license cost, but it may be quite high.

For suspension design and analysis:

Bill Mitchell's Racing by the Numbers software has been a benchmark for years to determine 2D and 3D suspension geometry.

A cheap alternative is Suspension Analyer, it also has a free limited demo to try it out. It gives you the basic information you need.

But if you've never used any solid modeling package, it can be a bit much to learn.

 

Solidworks is your best bet, autodesk inventor is also a good program.

 

Solidworks is pretty easy to pickup.

 

Have any of you solidworks users managed to collect any good models for S2000 related stuff? I use it all the time for work but have never bothered "playing" with the car at all mostly because I didn't want to start modeling from scratch.
