Carroll Smith...will be missed
Carroll Smith, Race driver,engineer, and the auther of the legendary "To Win" series of books, died 3 days ago from pancreatic cancer. He was perhaps the most authoritative source on automotive racing. He will be missed.

Wow, what a shock 
I knew Carroll from the Formula Atlantic series - he was helping someone run a car back in '88. Good enough guy, though maybe not the most up-to-date. I'd recommend his books for anyone just getting started in racing; they are a handy reference when I can't remember a formula.
