Default Clutch Delay Valve?

I have a 2006 S2000, bought new and less than one year old.

When accelerating hard and power shifting the clutch seems to slip a little, but only on the 1st-to-2nd shift. It doesn't happen on shifts past 2nd gear.

Is this just due to the "clutch delay valve" that I've read about?

It sounds like it... https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...hl=clutch+delay . For the future, many mechanical, non-track related topics can be found in the "Under the Hood" forum.

Why are you power shifting?

Not technically 'power shifting' (with no clutch) but shifting quickly (using the clutch).
When shifting quickly, it feels like the clutch is slipping a little. I've done this so rarely that I seriously doubt it's a worn-out clutch, but just wanted to check if this is normal--was hoping for a lot of "yes" answers about the clutch delay valve; unfortunately that other post didn't really clear this up... was hoping that the hard core track folks would be able to relate to this and let me know what's going on.

I guess hardcore track folks don't powershift and and almost never have a 1-2 upshift on track.

Im sure the delay valve is playing a part in it. If you take it out, you may still notice the clutch will slip some. I can't wait to get a new one myself.

PS. have fun with the removal.. don't poke yourself!

The delay valve is there to protect your synchros. If you heel-toe and rev-match properly you don't need it. If you don't and just slam the shifter into the next gear you can cause serious wear/failure to the synchros and eventually lock out gears (especially 5th and 6th which have only singles).

If I remember correctly, all gears would feel like they had some clutch slippage with I had the CDV.

They do. It's not gear specific. It's a valve which causes the clutch to release more slowly than earlier models. They did this to allow more clutch drag and more time for the synchros to match engine and transmission speeds. It had nothing to do with which gear you are in and has a lot to do with people jamming the shifter into gear and dropping the clutch racing from stop lights.

It was a change prompted by a consistent pattern of failure.
