Default Clutch / Flywheel question for S2KC guys

Hey all,
Its gonna be clutch time on my car very soon, possibly before the next ACS event or right after. It seems the ACT kit is the popular way to go but I wanted to see what the prevailing opinions are on setups that get tracked a lot but see a fair amount of street driving.

Some things to keep in mind:

I will likely stay in stock class 1 more year (no power adders)

I do DD my car about 50% of the time and live in the mountains so I want to retain some civility

So please share, what are you guys running for a clutch and did you go for a lightened flywheel, and if you would recommend it to someone else.

Thanks in advance

-Ryan

If you're staying in stock class. Most typically use an OEM disk with an Heavy Duty pressure plate. AP1 flywheel will suffice, it's 14lbs. AP2s typically upgrade to AP1 FW or 11lb FW.

That's my setup. AP1 FW with HD pressure plate and OEM disk. Works great and DD drivable.

Same here...ACT HD plate, OEM disc and ACT 8lb flywheel.

Although, I think if youre at stockish HP, the stock clutch should be fine. The HD can be grabby at times if youre not smoothest shifter(me lol).

One thing to also consider is the longevity of your motor mounts. You can ask Mike K. About that one. He's destroyed quite a few, like due to having a clutch that is too aggressive/harsh.

There's no need for a stronger pressure plate; its just gonna put more stress on your diff.
I have exedy's OEM kit KHC06, and a side bonus is it got rid of my clutch buzz.
I also have F1 spec's 11 pound chromoly flywheel which the friend threw into the clutch kit deal for an add'l $85. A lighter flywheel means the engine reacts faster during gear changes to what you want the revs to be. My shifts have definitely gotten smoother, so maybe my diff will last longer.
Also shop around for engine or transmission mounts if you got some good mileage on the chassis. Innovative mounts are harder and noisier. A rear main seal might also be good, though these cars don't have many leak problems there yet.

Unless you plan on boosting, I'd stick to a OEM or OE replacement clutch.

I have the same setup on the car I recently purchased, and it is by far the best setup I have had to date. I liked the ACT setup and HD pressure plate on my last car, but the exedy makes all of the moving parts noticeably smoother/less harsh. Feels very OEM.

Exedy OE replacement clutch with 8lb flywheel. Not much difference from OEM setup. I do prefer the OEM FCC pressure plate more than the Exedy OE clutch (way too light!)
