Default Crash at Topeka on Friday?

I just read this on the Miata board:

"Apparently there was a 2-car collision on the North Course Friday. An SCCA employee got lost on course and Ann Vogel T-boned her. Both were in S2000's in BSL. Guess who was driving a borrowed car. What a mess. Someone blamed it on the rain washing away the lines, but there's probably several factors that went into it. "

Also at SCCA.org there are no final updates for some of the classes. Any idea if the event finished ok on Friday?

Post taken from another board:

Yep. North course. Toward the end of the course, there was a section
that was used by the pro on the weekend that had a LOT of rubber laid down,
forming a path that curved off to the left. A S2K driver followed the
path, instead of the cones (the rain may have played a role here), and
ended up looping into the path of another S2K. The driver realized the
error of their ways and jumped on the brakes, which probably minimized
the carnage. One of the cars had some front suspension damage and had
to be drug backwards off the course. There were no injuries, to my
knowledge.

Slightly OT but who else caught the fact that the yellow S is sporting Hoosier stickers while wearing Victoracers?

A lot of people have Hoosier stickers on their hoods for contingency purposes, but made the switch to Kumhos or Bridgestones when it started to rain. It's easier to change wheels than stickers, thus the Kumho-shod, Hoosier-decaled cars...

Thanks Steve, that makes a little sense.

It's obvious from the results who was driving the off course car, since she didn't run Friday. She is indeed an SCCA employee, but was not functioning in that role at the time. Just another entrant.

North Course, third run, raining. It was only about 1/3 into the course. The tire track was from the warmup event, or some earlier event. (The Pro was run in the South course area.) Also the tire stripe and the driver turned to the right of the course, back toward the first left on the course, where she crossed in front of the next car, which had just started it's run. If you have access to a course map, she left the course to the right exiting the turn after CP Slalom, just before Drainage Grate Samba, then crossed the course at the completion of Down the Drain corner, where the next car t-bone her. The off course car approached next driver from the right. Driver was of course looking left toward Around the Horn.

"Drainage Grate Samba"? "Down the Drain"? No wonder it rained on that course! The course designers ought to be a little more careful with their naming schemes...

Steve and J.P., this is how some people solved the "got Hoosier stickers but want to switch to Kumhos today" problem in San Diego:

Yes, there was an accident. The owner of the grey S2K is the VP of our local SCCA group. He had let the young lady drive his car and as he tells the story, she got lost on the track and slip into the other course. Bang!! Car out of commission. He actually borrowed a car to drive here last weekend.
