Default The difference between oversteer and...

So i went autocrossing saturday for the first time...my setup is intake, exhaust, coilovers(12k/12k), and 17" slips with Sumi HTRZIII tires (225/255)

Im just wondering how do you tell the difference in oversteer and just having a loose rear end?

I had an alignment done then got coilovers a few weeks later and raised the rear, so i could have some positive toe and -3 camber in rear and alot of negative toe and -1.8 camber in front, would this cause a sloppy rear end?

I also dont have a thicker front sway bar but i thought having the 225/255 combo would make buying a thicker front sway bar useless...is this true?

thanks to anyone that helps me out!

Get your alingment figured out, do a couple more autocross to really feel your car.

You really dont want any toe in the front, and just a little in the back. Try searching for alingment specs to get some better ideas.

Good Luck!

Oversteer and loose are two words for the same thing. Are you asking between how to tell the difference between a neutral car and one that has too much oversteer? Or something else?

I'm hoping the one on the left has the "loose rear."

So back on topic... lol

SO saying you have alot of oversteer as saying you have a washy rear end?

i've done some reading and it seems having pos toe on the rear wheels makes you oversteer horribly...i guess ill get an alignment, and next autocross try to stiffen the front shocks and loosen the rears

First thing is to have someone experienced drive the car and get their opinion. You didn't state if it's corner entry or exit oversteer. Then get an alignment, stiffen up the front coilovers and soften up the rear a bit and see how that works. If it's still loose add a large front sway bar.

Start with lowering the rear tire pressures.

I have autocrossed with -3 camber in the rear, I think it is a little too much camber since it reduces the tire contact patch to make it worth while. Right now I have -2 in the front and -2.6 in the rear and the car feels much better. As far as toe in goes, you want zero toe in the front and a little bit of toe in in the rear.

see...these 255's are killing me, i cant let out some of the camber or they will rub

maybe now that i have 12k springs it will be able to handle -2.5 or so

and im almost positive im running positive toe in the rear now, Ill get an alignment and dig up this thread to let you know the outcome!

thanks guys
