You forgot one of the biggest problem areas people might face with a dog box... Engaging first. If the dogs aren't lined up right, you can't engage first. So you will often have to drag the clutch a little to get things turning so you can clunk it into first.

Anyway - I'd love to have a dog box if I could afford it. I just wanted to put that warning out there for people thinking of this for street use. Might get stuck at some stop lights.

A dog box is a RACE ONLY transmission.

You will never be happy with it on the street more so than just running down to fill up the car before you head back to the track.

On the track it's great, although it does require a different type of shifting skills, but on the street it is totally unlivable.

There's a good article on this very subject in this month's Grassroot's Motorsports magazine pg. 102.

There is also a very good article on trannies in general starting on pd 101.

Bottom line is that the best thing you can do for your tranny is to learn how to shift. Slow down so the synchros have time to do their job.

Cost? Straight cut or helical? What level of flexibility over individual ratios?

Subscribing and listening what comes up

Like said before dog box is no use for street driving, it would actually be a PITA

i know one thing for sure it will be a H pattern shift and not a sequential it would just cost too much.

The gain would not be worth it compared to the downsides in my eyes.

You don't have to go through the H-shift pattern which saves more time while shifting and will prevent you from misshifting in the heat of the action
