Default Driving Instruction

Could those that have an opinion please list the books that taught them the most about driving. Both on the street and on the track. Sincere thanks and apologies if this has been asked to death, a search yielded little result.

Speed Secrets three-book series by Ross Bentley. I found Speed Secrets 1 & 2 very helpful and I even carry them to the track always so if things aren't clicking or I if have dead time, I review the Appendices at the end that recap the secrets.

Also, Going Faster! by Carl Lopez, which is the Skip Barber book. Tons of fundamental theory and technical detail that are great for any racer to know. Bentley's books are more about driving techniques (mental and physical).

I agree re the Lopez book. They kind of complement each other.

I agree with the first Speed Secrets book. But nothing is a substitute for seat time with an actual experienced instructor.

How much you can get out of any book is limited to how well you can integrate theoretical knowlege and practical skill. Some people are very theory-oriented (me, for instance, an engineer) and other people are very hands-on skill-oriented.

Everyone does best when they have plenty of both, but the exact best mix between them is highly individualistic.

Speed Secrets series by R. Bentley.

Ironically enough I started doing the reading after I had been to the track many times, but then again I'm just one of those people who do not learn from a book very well...

Thanks to all for the recommendations. Really a beginner to this and not being in a position to take a class, smart reading seems the best place to start.
