many will suggest Piloti and I could NOT disagree more even being a dealer. They are good casual shoes but are way too thick to allow consistent heel toe and any discrimination in pedal feel.
For non FIA approved road shoes suggest any of the Cole Hahn driving mocs and the various knock offs - elegant enough to wear once arrived too. For low budget, try wrestling shoes which are actually very much like quality race shoes without Nomex content. For a comfortable cheap race shoe try the low cut Simpson or Impact shoe - in black they are somewaht stealthy enough to wear with jeans.

the Adidas Goodyear driving shoes. The Adidas is a good compromise between a shoe that's good for driving and for general use as a sneaker, and it's more durable.

I have Puma Circat V's.
They're really comfortable but they stopped making them a few years ago. So you might be hard-pressed to find a new pair.
Edit: Here's a place if you wear a size 5US

I happen to disagree about the Piloti shoes. Of course it is only my opinion, you need to find a shoe that works for you. Over the years I have raced in Simpson, Momo, Oakley and Piloti. Atleast for me the Piloti "Race Professional" product line worked well in fit and performance.
My best advice to you is find the shoe that best fits your needs. Everyone's feet are differant, so the first step is to get the best fitting shoe. Additionally the way you ankle flexes and moves has to be considered. For example my right ankle was broken and it does not flex as well as it did prior to the break, so the way the Piloti is made it easier for me to heel and toe. You also need to decide if you want just want a driving shoe for driving comfort, or at the other end of the spectrum do you want a full race shoe.
My last thought on this is: Blanket comments about how bad or good a product is such as shoes may in some cases lead you down the wrong road. Do your research find a race shop that sells differant brands and check them out for yourself.
