Default Ebay Wing for Track Use?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/S2000-S2K-AP...e27b25&vxp=mtr

what do you guys think of this? its a J's wing replica on ebay. less then half the cost of a real one. i can really care less for the brand as long as its doing its job. curious if anyone is running this and how its holding up in terms of quality and functionality? thanks in advance.

If it were me I would buy a GTC-200 with CFD data for the same price.

While replica bumpers and body panels are typically just a skin and do not require any strength, an aerofoil(if its worth anything) should be making 200-400lbs of downward force at speed. IMO the replica is not cheap enough to test that theory for me.

I would stay away. I'm not a brand whore by any means. I will cheap out and buy replica items for non critical parts. However, a wing failure during a high speed corner can be disastrous. If money is a concern, wait for something used to come up for sale.

after shipping, it's $900.

I'd go with a GTC-250 for that kind of money.

A regular GTC-200 can be had for less.

FWIW, this is what happens when your wing fails on track. If you watch his rear view mirror, you can see when it flies off. You won't notice it until you go into your next high speed turn and realize that you don't quite have the grip you had before...

thank you for the replies, you guys made really valid points.

i have another question now, money aside, what are the difference between wings such as J's, voltex, and the gtxxx? is there an advantage one has over another? also sizes i see from like 1400 1500 1600?

It depends on what else you're doing to the car.

Are you going to have a front splitter or any kind of front aero to balance out the wing? If not, then go with a smaller wing.

The wings, based on mounting height and width will affect the down force generated. They'll also affect your top speed and increase drag.

Essentially, only run as much aero/wing as needed.

Everyone swears by voltex, and they for sure make a good product. That said, an APR GTC wing will accomplish 90-95% of the same benefits you're looking for at a fraction of the price.

I think the Voltex wings look better and are slightly more efficient at producing down force versus the GTC wings - more lbs. of down force and less drag. Most people can't tell the difference.

For a car without front aero - a GTC200 or Voltex 1S is perfect.

If mixing with front aero, something you like the look of. However, I think the GTC-250 is probably the best bang for the buck wing.

Does Voltex or J's for that matter publish CFD data like APR?

J's is voltex and no unfortunately they don't. APR's CFD data isn't really accurate though because they are measured in clean air which is never going to be the case, especially on the rear of an S2000 at the stand heights they give you.

FWIW I think the ebay wing is fine for track use. Is it as strong as an authentic one? I wouldn't think so, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's weak. Hell it could be stronger for all we know! One of my good friends runs this wing and his car sees a good amount of track time. I know for a fact the wing has spent a good amount of time at speeds well over 120mph and there have been no issues after almost a year. I would never pay $900 shipped for it but at <$600 it may become a little more tempting.
