EBC Yellow Stuff
So, just two weeks ago I put some stock s2000 pads on my acura rsx. They were ok, but were fading on me a bit, and didn't have very high friction. I had a set of EBC yellows in the garage (that I had also gotten for free), so I threw them on since I figured I would like them more. They're pretty much just as crappy as the OEM pads in my opinion. They have awful pedal feel. Virtually no initial bite, and the friction is very non-linear with pedal force - you push, get little braking, push harder, get little braking, push harder, and then 'wam' tons of braking. Not a good feeling at all. It's like they cross some force (or perhaps temperature) threshold, and then they suddenly brake well.
On the plus side they don't dust very much at all, which is nice. Regardless, I will never pay for a set of EBC pads, that's for sure. I will likely be ordering another set of HPS. They might dust a bit more than EBC or oem, but the braking feel is oh so much better.

Seems like people have different experiences with the same pad. On my Subaru, I felt they were identical to the Ferodo DS2500s (in a good way) for all year street usage and autox. Both are a bit dusty, work well when cold and autox hot, quiet, and reasonable rotor wear (I think it was a set of front pads/rotors every two years for my usage). I feel both the DS2500 and EBC Yellows have way more initial bite than the stock pads on my S2000.
Except I've already ran the HPS (as well as the HP+) in the past, and the HPS are far, far, far better than stock. I like the HP+ even more from a performance standpoint, but they aren't worth the extreme dust and occasional squealing.
I agree with you there. My rsx used to be supercharged, and I ran HP+ on a track that is known to be the hardest on brakes in the Midwest. I had a very similar issue where when the HP+ crossed their max temp threshold, braking ability falls off a cliff unpredictably. Very scary. I actually did my first track days with HPS and they also faded, but did not exhibit any of the dramatic and sudden loss of braking ability that the HP+ did.
in the same places HP+ were lost on Miata the Yellows besome just a bit mushy on S2000 (a heavier car too).
with no dust whatsoever and reasonable price (~180$ for front+rear set) IMHO it's a winner.
as said earlier, for heavy track usage they probably won't be as good as Carbotechs/Cobalts - but people say a lot that canyon downhills are tougher on brakes than trackdays.....
