Default Engine builder in So Cal

Folks,

A while back someone mentioned an engine builder in Southern California who built pretty hot S2000 motors. In the interest of going faster (the target here is 300 mph un-blown on gas only with 2 liters), I am looking for someone to help me produce 330+ HP out of one of these little mills.

That'll most likely mean reliable 12,000 rpm and torque of at least 150 ft/lbs between 8500 and 11,500, so some serious head work and possibly bigger valves.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

Autowave in Huntington Beach was able to get a bunch of horses out of the late Paul Mumford's S2000, I believe, and I think in the amount of which you are interested. Autowave is prominently featured in Hayashi's Pulp Racing diaries.

Did a double take on the goal here.... 300 mph?
All I could think is it's gonna take a LOT more than 330HP to get an 'S' to 300 mph.
Then I remembered your thread on the salt flat runs.....

Jim,

Joe Alaniz built us a 2 liter race engine using stock cams that was reliable to 10,500 rpm. It produced about 50 hp more than stock and peak torque was 30 lbs-ft higher than stock. He also has a lot of experience in doing high performance racing engines that work - most of the winners in NASA's Honda Challenge (and now SCCA Honda Cup) use his heads. He was also the head guy for the first 9-second all-motor drag Honda (FWD).

The additional hp is really going to come down to cam and intake performance. We kept the stock intake manifold and throttle body due to series regulations. With some 52 mm individual throttle bodies (and a proper ducted plenum) there is easily another 20 hp there. And with some bigger cams, you may have your goal in reach.

I know both Hytech Exhaust and Intrinsic Performance Solutions (IPS) are transferring their proven Honda K-series cam profiles to F20C blanks in the near future. Toda also has new bigger cams coming out. For a true custom solution, consider contacting the cam grinder that Greenlight (who is drag racing a rail with an F20C) uses. Apparently he is spinning well over 10k rpm.

I believe Mumford's car was supercharged BTW. Wouldn't fit for Jim's needs. Go get those GM guys. If I can be of any dyno help, I'd be glad to contribute free of charge. I'm all for the little guy beating the big corporate $$$'s.

Greenlight's cam grinder is Cam Motion.

Jim, you can also try Elgin Cams. He'll do custom anything.
