Default Engine Damper

Do engine dampers serve any real function or is it just JDM bling? I know the engine moves a fair amount under load and in theory dampening that would seem like a good idea. I looked but didn't find an answer to that question.

From what I hear, not a noticeable difference.

I didn't find that it made any difference and took it out. The only noticeable thing it did was make my shift knob shake less.

Can the stock mounts be "filled" in any way to "firm" them up? My beater is a '90 Accord, filling the motor mounts with a thick heavy silicone is a cheap DIY way to extend the life of the mount and firm them up....

Just a thought.

Could the benefit be one realized over time- less wear-n-tear?

I've seen them make a difference in a car like a 240 that has a lot of engine movement, I think its just a stepping stone to solid mounts IMO. By using an engine damper you are keeping the engine from torquing therefore transferring the power to the driveline more instantaneously, but thats just going to send more shock through it IMO, so if the rest of the car isn't made for it I think it could cause more harm than good. If it does help with the shifter shake it might serve a purpose in a race car where your hand spends a lot of time on the shifter. I dunno I'm just guessing lol

I've got an overpriced J's, and It's pure bling.

I used to think it did something, but after running the car with and without it for a few months at a time, I can't tell.

It's effective at making your wallet lighter, car heavier and slightly more underhood bling.

But what if you used it in conjunction with a strut tower bar?

Whatever it was designed to do, I bet stiffer motor mounts do it better

I've got one and I think it's beneficial - the acceleration on my engine is rather brisk (dynojet tuning )

I've got the J's one also...and yes combined with the strut bar. Nothing noticeable...but it does look cool.
