Default Engine lifespan on a track car

Hi everyone, I currently run a 2005 AP2 with stock engine. The car and engine have 105K miles, with about 20 track days on it. AFAIK the engine has never been rebuilt before. I wonder if I am on borrowed time now? I do change oil frequently (about 3-4 track days each time). How long has your engine last and are there any preventative maintenance things to do? Thanks!

I would keep changing the oil with quality stuff and keep the valves adjusted properly. You should be fine. If you are worried a good compression and leak down check wouldn’t hurt. Also you could send the oil out for inspection like to Blackstone.

My 2005 has done 70-80 track days and 138,000 miles. It still makes 229 dyno jet hp and doesnt burn any oil. i do a cheap-oil change every track day / track weekend. Been running mobil 1 since new. If your car has been taken care of it can do the same but i believe a lot of that depends on how the owner treats the car during warmup.

I think some of the longevity depends on what you’ve done. The car is very reliable and the go to motor is the 140k stock motor which never fails. The full built race motors are not nearly as reliable. Even with regular oil changes and valve jobs we still see the Dayton sleeves have issues as well as rocker issues.

nothing that isn’t fixed with money!

Good. The success rate of "rebuilding" the S2000 engine is dismal. Budget for a replacement engine which will be used as no "crate" engines or engine blocks are available.

I change my oil more frequently, definitely after every second event, most often after every event - although I do try to run two day events. .

I'm at 164k and run about 25-30 track days per year for the last 5-6yrs. Oil changes done every 3 days w/Motul 300v 5w-40 (yes I know its overkill but it gives me piece of mind). Valve adjust/plugs done once a year. Not a single issue yet.

^ Similar maintenance schedule here - oil change every 3-4 track days (rotella T6 5w-40). Valve adjustment and plug change every year.

I do about 6-10 track days every year for the past 10-11 years now. Around 80 track days total on my motor. 110K miles. Motor is all stock - just a snorkel into the OEM airbox and testpipe - stock tune and internals.

Mind sharing if you guys are running the F20 or F22? I always wondered if there are any high mileage tracked F20C cars that are still on the factory retainers and oil banjo bolts (My00/01).
