Engine Rebuild question / preventative maintenance
Hello,
My ap2 2004 is at 173,000 miles. It's running good right now, and I would like to start tracking it more often.
Would you guys do some preventative maintenance to the engine and rebuild some of the engines components? I see some guys, and it seems like they just keep tracking till their motor is blown (then buy a new engine). That seems inefficient to me, and was wondering what your advice was. (what do you guys usually do?)
Also is there any other components that you recommend replacing/ rebuilding on the car, such as: radiator (never changed) etc...
thanks for your help

How far back is the maintenance of the motor known?
Most AP1s get upgrade to AP2 retainers, but seeing as you have an MY04, that won't be necessary. It might be hard to tell, but you can pull off the valve cover and inspect the retainers anyways. While you're at it, check the clearances and do a valve adjustment if necessary.
A few things to consider while you are in there:
- New valve cover seals
- New spark plugs (inspect for oil)
- Any TCT issues?
Most failures I've seen result from oil starvation. A baffled oil pan is good insurance.
