evening lapping video
So the local Alfa club hosted an "evening lapping" day last week. I attended, as did many others from the PacNW forums.
Here's a video (300M, WMV format) from the last run of the night. The first car you see pass me is RT in his Elise. A little while later you will see SlowV6 pass me in his loud NSX. You also see a Miata pass me -- with a huge turbocharger that you don't see.
Eventually you see an Evo pass me, then drop two tires off and spin right in front of me. I had to commit to going outside of him, and then he almost let his car roll into my path.

Chase cam video recording system. G2X datalogger. Trackvision software to overlay the one onto the other.
I've been posting on TrackHQ.com to find a similar solution, that includes: track map, lap times, G forces, RPM, and speedometer all in one. So far...no bites...
Can you explain all the hardware and software you need for this setup? Explain in layman's terms?
I currently have a Chasecam bullet cam mated to a MiniDV recorder...no data recorder...
Also, video was kinda choppy for such a large file...is that normal??

The Trackvision program can take input from almost any datalogger and make an overlay like that. But of course, you need the datalogger as a prerequisite.
So you need a data logger file. You need a video file. And you need the Trackvision program. (There may be a competitor to Trackvision, but I don't know of it.)
The full description of the system is:
Two bulletcams, feeding into a Chasecam SS1000 split screen module, feeding into a Chasecam PDR100. That records the video signal to Compact Flash.
The G2X is tapped into the car's RPM signal, but is otherwise standalone (the MPH is coming from GPS, not from the car). That also records to Compact Flash.
The G2X comes with analysis software, that I have running on my XP box. It prints out a Trackvision file.
Trackvision runs under XP as well, and it does the integration between data and video.
Including everything except the PC (mounts, cameras, recorders, software, cables, etc.), the setup cost about $3K.
