Default Exhaust dB at tracks.

Hi All,

I was planning on buying a new single pipe exhaust this season, but I just checked my local autocross club sight and they are now enforcing a 100dB sound level. I have seen multiple tracks are now enforcing a dB Level such as Laguna Seca I believe is 94dB

I would like to make this thread about Intake/exhaust configurations that have been flagged for being too loud.

Please include Intake, Exhaust, Header, HFC/TP...

If anyone has official db readings for their setup I think this would be very helpful as well.

Thanks,

to what i know of, MRLS stock with tp is pretty much max
you can run anything really, just gotta get off throttle when you go by the sound test area

at a track day I can handle getting off the throttle, at an autocross event, there is no getting off the throttle. I primarily autocross and my club has passed the rule and bought the equipment so now I want to make sure I can make it under the limit.

I am looking for solid numbers or people that know they have gone over a specific Level with their setup.

solid numbers are hard to find. Besides all the variables on the car(motor mounts can change dB levels!) distance, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, elevation, background noise, adjacent structures, type of equipment, operator of equipment, RPM etc and list goes on can all effect sound level readings. You would need the same car in lab and change exhausts to get relative readings and no one has done that. All you are get is a lot of subjective BS from everyone. Most Manufactures do not even list dB levels as it is too subjective. (I think Tanabe does, I have a Tanabe dual medallion and love it, but anyway)

Most you can hope for is that your local club gives some slack for the first event so you can see the relative level they are after.

Unless you have a turbo the exhaust, no matter what it is, gains you very very little on an S. And even less if you do not have other mods to support it and have a dyno tune. In other words just putting on an exhaust will gain you squat.

^ These are the kind of numbers I am looking for.

I know there are variables. within the car, the weather, and where the sensor is placed around the track, however I am just asking who has been flaged around a track and what there set up was. and if they have exact numbers that is a bonus.

Yes you can be negative and say this is impossible to determine, or you can say oh I was flagged at a track day and couldn't race the rest of the day because of it with this setup. They said I was metered at...

By the numbers above it looks like most exhausts are going to be flagged. if not booted.

Forgot this little bit of info that came with the numbers

"These numbers are from a BMI video "VTEC CLUB", it features a scene called "S2000 Exhaust Catalogue". Using a db mic they get data on the exhaust notes."

lol everyone on there is above 100dB! Even stock is 98.6. What is the stationary RPM?
Surprised you found these, but I still think they are too subjective.

that is from a post in 04 on the forum but yeah crappy numbers I guess it is more to where on the track the db reading is taken and were the sensor is setup, because according to these tests a stock s2000 cant run at multiple tracks across the US

These numbers look like they were taken closer to the exhaust than you'll be from the sound guy at the track/autocross--maybe they were taken right next to the car.

FYI I have a stock CR exhaust with a berk header and test pipe and I was passing last month at Laguna. I'm not sure if the limit was still 92db, they could have already dropped it to 90.
