Default Experience wanted

Anyone want to meet me at a track in the southeast for a track night event and drive my 01?

I just finished Sebring and the rough track really makes the aged suspension and bushings shine.

back in the day, I always started modifying my cars with suspension. The suspension on this car is really good and does everything I want it to. However, the amount of body roll, especially when I’m tailing c8 vettes and late model 911s, is just too much.

for the last two years I did a bunch of auto cross, it’s fun, but it’s a cheap replacement for a race track.

now Road Atlanta is my favorite track. I love the elevation and how smooth it is.

im starting to toy with the idea of more power, tire and aero, but I’m cautious about killing the street ability of my car.

So if you have a lot of experience tracking an ap1, you live in the South, and you want to meet up and co-drive. Let me know.

thanks!

You should sign up for NASA SE Carolina Motorsports Park event November 1st & 2nd.
I'll be racing Honda Challenge but can jump into another car for half a hpde session either Saturday or Sunday. I have a communicator and can give you feedback while you're right seat.

Boston,

thank you for the offer, that is exactly what I’m looking for. Unfortunately I’m busy that weekend.

do you ever come further south; Road Atlanta, Daytona, Nola? I’d love to check out CMP, I’ll check on the events on NASA and see if there is something I can line up.

I know data logging would be a great way to start analyzing what I’m doing on track vs just going off feel. Any systems you’d recommend? I tried using an app Track Addict but other than spotty video, it wasn’t giving me much feedback.

I won't make RA in December but NASA SE goes there 2 to 3 times a year. Roebling Road Raceway is usually the most South I travel.
I'd recommend picking up an Aim solo2, The garmin catalyst is also a great option but doesn't give you raw data like the Aim products.

I'd be interested in doing Sebring with you. I can bring my BRZ and we can drive both.

that would be cool. I just saw they were having another track night in December but I can’t make that one.

Dayton is 7 hours and I don’t really love it, so I’m only going if I have work in the area. I’ll break plans to go back to RA. Love that track. Nola is close and I haven’t run there yet. Been told it’s a good beginners track because it’s flat and you can see all the turns. Might also provide the most consistent laps times to data log and see what I’m doing out there.

Been happy with the re71rs. Bought it for AutoX but I’m doing less AutoX and more track days now. From the old butt dyno, feels like performance is starting to drop off, although predictably. Felt like I was on rails at RA, this last time I spun at Sebring at turn 6, bad setup coming out of 5 and got on the gas too soon.

Also been happy with the POWERSTOP PSA. I’m about halfway through these pads up front. They handled all the heat from 30min sessions at Sebring. However, I still don’t have the confidence I’d like in the braking system. These were cheap rotors from Rock Auto, interesting how the heat marks lined up with the cooling veins. Also looks like pad contact is not uniform, unless it’s normal for the outside of the rotor to stay cooler that the center. Guess that makes sense.

Those "heat marks" are from the abs pulsing. Means you're leaning too much on the abs system. Your front tires are locking up and the abs is trying to sort it out.
Try to work on getting to that threshold right before abs and consistently hitting that mark every time.
