Default Federal 595RS-R

I've been doing some research on the Federal 595RS-R and I can't find much info on them. I saw a FS thread in the Racing and Competition forum a few months back where someone was selling a set that were used for light track duty. Has anyone tried these? If so, how did they perform? What were they comparable to? How was the dry traction? How was the wet traction?

I typically run NT-01s at the track and Direzza Z1 Star Specs on the street. I just bought a 2008 EVO X and the 595RS-R seems appealing for the price (18" tires are $$$$). I was just wondering if they were worth my money. I'm looking for something about comparable in dry traction, wet traction, and life as a Star Spec and these look promising.

I know that the 595RS has a bit of a poor reputation and didn't particularly live up to all of the hype, at least not outside of the drifting world. From the little bit of info I've been able to find on these, the 595RS-R seems to be much better. I know that at least one of you guys was using these at the track. It was also the official tire of the Australian X Challenge powered by Lotus. That has to mean something... right?

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me soon. My rears on the Evo are cording and my American Express is getting anxious.

I looked into them last year, but had a hard time finding them. Most people did not stock them. The dealers that sold Federal said that could get them said it was a 4+ week wait for them to come in. Things could be different now.

I found them at a place in California. Not I just need to know how they perform.

They're comparable to an RE01R basically. Great grip, and excellent price. That's why they're so popular in Socal and usually on backorder for weeks. They come and go fast. Have good life as well.

My next tire will be the 595RS-R or the NT05. I think they're all up there in terms of grip. I love my Star Specs right now, too.

my opinion : 595 rsr probably best grip compared with price !

but of course the more $ you pay the more grip the tire should be, so it depends on how much grip do you need for your evo?? track use? daily drive?

i've used dunlop z1 and 595 rsr and i personally think z1 > 595 rsr in grip. z1 stay relatively grippy vs 595 rsr kind of gets greasy and fades away. i think z1 lasts longer? not sure.

my thoughts,

Eddie

I'm not sure if I'd say z1 lasts longer. I do think they last longer per session before it gets all greasy and fails on you lol. I was on 595 for a whole year with around 8 track days (some open tests in between so count as 2 track days even?) and that's a record that might just be hard to beat, even though the * spec has perfectly even wear and plenty of meat after say 4 track days...so we'll see?

But yes...*spec>595 for grip/feedback for sure...

I preferred the R-SR over the NT05.

I really enjoy my 595rsr, it holds really well, does not fade easily.
However, for the very first time last week, one tire actually got deformed, but it was on it's 8th day. I have spoken to many people, and they all say Starspec Z1 is faster.
