Default Feedback requested: ACS in-car Video

I'm always looking for feedback and trying to improve myself...
In the past 5 months, I've managed to find myself at CalSpeedway 3 times, as it's pretty close to Vegas. But, I can't seem to get down to the faster times.
This last time, I had a camera setup on the pedals to see if I was actually heel-and-toe'ing or heel-and-side-of-foot'ing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElWIJU_36E0

Was able to turn a 1:57.94 at the end of it all.

Mods are as follows.
- 17x9 6ULR with 255 Hankook RS3 all around (think I left them at 34psi all around)
- eibach pro-kit springs on OEM shocks
- euro-spec alignment
- no front lip, no rear wing; mugen-style hardtop
- Berk HFC, removed muffler section, with turn down
- race weight is 2960lbs (Removed softtop and Harddog bar installed)
- basically for S2KC, it's a Street class car.

Any feedback would be nice. After watching this video, I noticed I put my hand on the shifter, A LOT... as well as rest my foot on the clutch.

Are you allowed ABS? It seems you can brake a little later/harder.

Also, you heel-toe through every gear on downshifts. I go into the gates, but I do one BIG blip. E.g., going into 3, I press the clutch, go 5->4->3->2, blip as I'm going into 2, and let off the clutch. I found that it helps me brake much more consistently.

Based on gear shifts, your exit speeds seem similar to mine, but you make more power; you hit higher gears, where its not worth it for me to shift. You gain time on me there, and I get some back in turns 1 and 2, where I go flat, courtesy of the CR aero.

I'd love to see you drive in person!

i can't make out much from the video...but for the sharp left turn after the oval, I used to shift straight from 5 to 2. All the gear to gear downshifting while hard braking was too much for me to do with 100% control. This change helped my time.

I'm definitely going thru each gear when I downshift...

One of the questions I always ask everyone is, where are they braking. I'm very conservative with the brakes. I usually brake 20-30' before I could... I'm never in ABS. I think it's coming from racing karts and other vehicles without ABS, so I don't use all of the braking force.

I'll have to try the skip-shift downshifts, thanks for the help!

Do you have a data logger? It would be most helpful if we could see your speeds. As for the video, the 1:57 lap is hard to tell where your line is due to the camera angle.

I don't brake into T3 until I hit that big opening on the chainlink fence.
I found it strange that you shifted in between T5 & T6. I usually take that in 2nd all the way through and shift just after.
And in general, you were very aggresive with the steering wheel. Smooth it out. You don't need to saw every corner.

BTW, I engage the ABS all the time.

I do have a data logger, but it's an iphone datalogger. it gave a weird mph for the oval, but it's as follows, turns were marked by the map software, not by me :
T1 - 118mph
T2 - 123mph
T3 - 45mph
T4 - 47mph
T5 (sweeping left) - (just before) 82mph
T6 (follow-thru) - 101mph
T7 (slow speed turn around) - 39mph
T8 (passed bridge) - 111mph
T9 - 48mph
T10 (left at tire barriers) - 66mph
T11 (onto oval) - 87mph

The shift between T5 and T6 (the left sweeper) was more because I didn't like how unstable the car is at the higher RPM. Likewise, the reason why I'm "aggressive" with the steering is cause the car is constantly stepping out...although I do feel like sometimes I'm pretty rough on turn-in (ie. turn 3). I'm pretty sure the RS3s are beyond their optimum, as the car was sliding around far more than it was the last time I was out at ACS. It could also be that the OEM shocks I have on the car have had 60K miles trying to control the eibach springs and it's causing the car to be a bit less predictable

I may have to try to get into the ABS more....apparently I need to stop being a vagine with the brakes and lifting on the oval.
Do you trail-brake?

I do appreciate any comments you guys are giving!

When you "skip shift", make sure you go through all the gates, or you'll destroy your tranny; more than a few owners can tell you that. The change we're suggesting is that you only blip the throttle once, so that your braking is more consistent.

Clutch, shift, shift, blip/shift, unclutch.

That will make your braking more consistent. Alternatively, if you're at ABS, its easier to stay in ABS while blipping every gear.
