Flight suit for driving suit?
So I typically use an old beat up flight suit when I work on my car. It was also a life long dream to be a fighter pilot (not happening now). I always fancied showing up to auto cross in a flight suit and pilot's helmet for fun, so I looked into them. While doing research I found that flight suits are 92% Nomex, which is the stuff normal driving suits are made out of. So what do you think? Flight suits can be found dirt cheap (~$75) at any surplus store and have tons of similarities.
I'm sure you'll be fine for HPDE and autox days (I autox in a tshirt and shorts.)
the only place you obviously wont pass tech in is any event that explicitly requires and SFI approved suit - chumpcar, NASA, club racing, etc.

I wore Nomex flight suits for 21 years and yes, they're very good for any track driving that doesn't require a certified driving suit. Also, don't wear your mechanic flight suit though because the dirt and grease will reduce its fire retardant properties. You can go with a larger than normal size and slip it on over your t-shirt and shorts on hot days at the track. Cotton t-shirts and shorts will add additional protection. I always wear cotton underwear and socks on track days because most synthetic fabric will melt into your skin in a fire.
P.S. I miss my Eagle.
