Functionality of OEM lip
I purchased an OEM style AP1 lip mainly because I messed up a corner of my front bumper and it is a good way to hide it, but also because there is a part of me that likes the look. However, I keep going back and forth as to if I want to paint/install it because some days I like the lipless look more. The car is going to be an STR autox (just fun regional) and HPDE car as well as my fair weather car in the summer. I was just curious if anyone looked into the aero advantage of the OEM lip, I have to think that it is minimal to none, but figured I would check. If it serves no benefit other than adding weight and being something to bust off on at the track or on a cone, I may just sell it.

It scrapes on things before your bumper does - can't really think of much benefit other than that. Anyone telling you otherwise is kidding themselves.

It costs points in NASA TT :(

It look nice. That's about it.

I would assume given this, most choose to not run a lip? |
Its an air dam.

If you're gonna use the points, use them for something functional, which the OEM lip isn't (or at least, not a noticeable amount) |
Best looking bumper on an S2000, in my opinion, is the AP1 bumper with the AP1 lip. Looks naked without it.
Only bumper & lip combo that will create any noticeable downforce is the AP2 and CR lip. |
Provides around 5lbs of downforce.
