Default Functionality of OEM lip

I purchased an OEM style AP1 lip mainly because I messed up a corner of my front bumper and it is a good way to hide it, but also because there is a part of me that likes the look. However, I keep going back and forth as to if I want to paint/install it because some days I like the lipless look more. The car is going to be an STR autox (just fun regional) and HPDE car as well as my fair weather car in the summer. I was just curious if anyone looked into the aero advantage of the OEM lip, I have to think that it is minimal to none, but figured I would check. If it serves no benefit other than adding weight and being something to bust off on at the track or on a cone, I may just sell it.

It scrapes on things before your bumper does - can't really think of much benefit other than that. Anyone telling you otherwise is kidding themselves.

is it because they lump all lips into the same pot as opposed to debating if lip A deserves more or less points than lip B??

I would assume given this, most choose to not run a lip?

But non-functional, so it would be wasted points in most people's opinion, correct

Yes.

If you're gonna use the points, use them for something functional, which the OEM lip isn't (or at least, not a noticeable amount)

Best looking bumper on an S2000, in my opinion, is the AP1 bumper with the AP1 lip. Looks naked without it.

Only bumper & lip combo that will create any noticeable downforce is the AP2 and CR lip.
