Default gendron bar question

i recently acquired both types and was wondering if there was an advantage to putting one type on over the other.

The hollow will give you less understeer. They also make the hollow in various wall thickness.

cheers

What are your plans for the car? Autocross, track, street?

What other suspension mods do you have already?

What size tires?

These questions need to be answered first.

If you plan to run stock class autocross on concrete with 225f/245r tires, then I would recommend the solid bar.

If you're running stock tires, I don't think you're going to need a bar.

Definitely the hollow bar on stock tires. The solid bar will introduce too much push on stock-sized non-R compound rubber.

The hollow bar comes in various thicknesses. Mostly Gendron will use a 0.25" wall thickness, but you need to check to be sure. I can tell you this, I did the stiffness calculations for the 0.25" thick vs. the solid, and there is only ~10% difference I think. Because stiffness is proportional to the diameter to the 4th power, almost all the thickness is coming from the outside while the inside is really not adding much. If you are running autox on an '00-'03 S2000 with race tires, you probably want all the stiffness you can get. If you have any other plan, go with the hollow- it's quite a bit lighter and almost as stiff.

My 2004 does not have nearly as much wheelspin issues, even with Hoosiers on concrete, so the used hollow bar that I picked up was plenty.

Peter

PS: If you choose one and eventually decide it was a mistake, you can always purchase the center section separately either from Gendron or directly from Speedway Engineering.
