So we have northeast divisional championships tomorrow, and I decided to take my s2k to the car wash. I told them do NOT put tire shine on. Well guess what they did

So I rubbed the crap out of it with paper towels, since I'm still at work. That did some but it's still clearly there. Any suggestions on how to restore the grip of the tires?

 

Depends on if it's silicon based. Maybe simple green or a citrus degreaser...

just drive 5 miles on concrete....

 

yes there's shine on the tread for the first inch or so from the sidewall, and I have lots of negative camber so I don't even touch that part of the tread from normal driving.

I would think a citrus degreaser would take te silicon based shine off...

 

They said they use "Ecolab water based" tire dressing, it looks like they probably mean Black Magic. Water based is probably good right? Time for some googling

 

About two runs should get rid of it.

 

it seems like they're all silicone based. I guess water based means it just doesn't have solvents. I'll try washing with soap and water, followed up by citrus degreaser. Then I may take the sander to it. Thanks for the help so far, if anyone has first hand experience I'd love to hear it.

 

I use some turtle wax stuff and always have it on and have never felt any difference in grip at it events. Believe me, 2 seconds after the rubber hits the hot pavement that stuff is scuffed.
