Default Glass fog in helmet

I just bought a Bell M2 helmet (full coverage, since I have the top down on the track whenever the weather permits).

I notice that my breath sometimes fogs my glasses. This is not a good thing, I think. Others must have solved this problem.

I can trade it in, since I just bought it and have not used or damaged it, so if a fully closed helmet will not work, if someone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

I use the same helmet. I usuall leave the visor up one notch, and haven't had problems fogging. Are you closing yours all the way?

Ted,

Thanks for this. Yes, if I lift up the face piece on notch, the fogging stops. Do you get used to the "bifocal" effect of having the bottom of the face mask running through the contol panel of the car?

Also, I have to take glasses off to get the helmet on, but I find it extremely difficult to get the glasses on with the helmet on--I have to reach in with one hand, bend my ear down, place the temple piece in place, and fold the ear back up!). Any hints on that?

Rain-X Anti-fog, available @ most auto parts stores. It's made for the inside of car windows, but I've used it on my helmet visor (unfortunately not tracking, but motorcyle riding), sunglasses, and my bathroom mirror. It works well. FL's humid as hell. Sunglasses fog over when you walk outside from the A/C.

I know in scuba diving you spit into the mask and smear it around. Maybe that's a cheap solution?

The lowest notch on my visor leaves it open only about 1/8" inch, so I don't even notice any 'bifocal' effect.

With the red line beeper, and knowing that I can check speeds off of videotape later, I really only look at the dash when I'm on the straights, to check fuel and temperature and peek at the HotLap; I tilt my head down for that, anyway.

I do wear sunglasses sometimes, and it's a bit of a pain to get them on, probably eaiser than your glasses due to design of the ear pieces.

tmorrow's suggestion of Rain-X Anti-fog is a good idea if the gap is too distracting.

BTW, I've left my visor all the way open, too. If your windows are up, that might be OK (as long as you don't crash). With the windows down, ouch! I've been pelted with gravel and rubber chunks by the car in front of me. Not a good idea.

Do you have plastic lenses or glass?

Plastic lenses on my glasses. Both my glasses and the visor on the helmet fog up, however.

Bell makes an accessory "breath deflector" for the M2.

http://www.bellracing.com/product/acchlmtshld.htm

I used it on mine before moving to my Sparco bucket and had great results...even w/ the visor all the way down.

You can pick them up from my good friends at OG Racing for about $24.00

In case you decide to change helmet, the Bieffe Predator is designed so that's it's easy to get glasses on/off after putting on the helmet. Don't know about fogging with the visor down as I usually keep it up. It still sometimes fogs in cool weather sitting in the hotpit but once on the track it clears up.
