Default Good pass, bad pass? Video...

Video. 48secs. 4megs - Right click, save-as

I was running in the Advanced Group with NASA and was running pretty much without any traffic. Everyone I pass, I try to keep A LOT of room between them and me. I don't want body damage as much as they don't. Plus, anyone who didn't want to be passed in a corner had to put a "N" on the back of their vehicle.

During one session, I come up on a Camaro SS. The Camaro was running much slower and I could tell as I flew up on him in turn 1 and 2. He had no N.

As I was making around turn 2, I see him get off the race line, and what looks like, room for me to pass. I initially back off, but, see that he wasn't going to cut in for the turn, i took the pass.

Not thinking much about it. I continue on. 3 laps later, pull in and go to the download session. In the meeting, the driver called me out as if I cut him off to where it was close and he had to make an emergency move to avoid contact.

I apologized not knowing how close we really were, and since I was the passing vehicle, I should have made sure it was perfectly ok to pass. In reviewing the tape, i saw what I posted.

The first portion was a lap PRIOR to the above incident. The second portion was the actual incident in question.

So, here's my question... was I truly at fault or was he following the race line and i cut him off?

I apologized regardless, just after I reviewed the tape i was thinking maybe I wasn't at fault?

Although, nothing happened, but, it's about preventing potential disasters.

Because you were faster than me at fast lap, I have to say it clearly was your fault.

Outside that fantasy world I would have done the same thing. he was cleary off line and leaving room for you. I don't see anything wrong w/ the pass.

But not because you're faster than me at Fastlap. It was a clean pass given the skill level (HPDE 3-4) of the session.

He obviously gave you some room to pass. But, it looked to me like you returned to the race line very quickly, maybe too quickly. I would be interested to know where you were when he first noticed you. Did he indicate that in the download? I suspect he was suprised to see you in his drivers side mirror and stayed right out of shock.

one thing i was trying to do was leave him some room when i got on the throttle, but, FWD = understeer... and it pushed me all the way over...at the point of turn-in, I figured, I was entering the turn at a higher speed and would have been exiting at a higher speed as well where he couldn't have caught me if he accelerated.

He basically said i "Dive-bombed" him. I'm sure he heard me flying up on him, if not saw me. Considering the power the Camaro SS makes, he was not accelerating towards the turn where I made the pass.

If it was a lower hp car and he turned in on more of a "proper" line... i'd definitely understand his stance.

But, you guys do make valid points and this is really here as a learning tool.

Since you are faster than me at fastlap and claim I weigh 78lbs and you don't like Buffalo Wild Wings. I say you were wrong and you should be banned

edit: I'll also use this as a plug, This was with the advanced group at NASA correct? Now if you would've came out with the advanced group at a speed ventures event, the camero you passed would have let you pass and you would have no problems with them afterwards and then Rylan would've came and passed you shortly thereafter and then JP would spin off track. See all the fun your missing by not running with speedventures Kam?

Your friend,
Karim

Karim's got a point. You're at fault for running w/ NASA There would have been nothing wrong w/ that pass in the adv group at SV.

Clean Pass, tell him to Piss off and put a N in his window.

From the video perspective, the Camaro was off the line in both corners and left tons of room for you, if he drives those lines all the time he must be used to being passed a lot.

If he wasn
