go to buttonwillow, drive 2 laps with and without wing in 1 session, the answer is there

btw, VTEC club 2 & 3 both have S2000 "no wing" battle, there are some good info

it's not like you have to have a wing, the car can be setup without wing and makes driver less lazy on driving, ha

the first time i put on my wing, my car understeer like hell even tho it still helps, shows in my data logger i went thru some corners at much faster speed wihtout lifting as much throttle

Yeah i'll probably end up experimenting myself. The only problem is I'm not very consistent with my driving yet...so the comparison might not be very accurate...maybe I can get you to drive it

I'll be @ Button in September with Speedventures.

Back in 2005, I ran Streets CCW with and w/o wing in the same day.

I swapped my trunk with Richard trunk with a wing and saw my times dropped by 1.3 seconds. Same car, same driver. As with any comparison, there are a lot of driver variables involved.

I noticed that your rear offset is much different then most of our setups. This could alter the experience the feel that you get from having a wing. Hope this helps!

Note: Richard HPM wing. Great wing.

Edited: clarification

^^wow thanks alot! Couple of questions tho:

*which rear wing did you have before you swapped with richard?
*Is the 1.3 second drop a comparison between your wing and richard's wing, or is it a comparison between NO wing and richard's wing?
*What were the results of no wing vs. your wing?
*Which line is the reference lap and which line is the "winged" lap in your graph?

yeah my rears are aggressive...17x9 +22...

I believe he is saying he the laps with no wing and then with Richard's. The graph is MPH, so given the results I would assume the yellow line is the lap with the wing, blue without.

Unfortunately I did not have my data logger before I got my wing, and I haven't done any non-wing tests since I did. I know I go through the high speed corners at my local track MUCH faster these days, but I can't say how much of that is from more experience versus the downforce from the wing versus just the confidence from having the wing.

I've been tossing around the idea of doing a comprehensive test of real world downforce and drag for different wings across a range of speeds using a combination of strain gauges and a data logger, but I have yet to find anyone willing to help fund such a project

I've got a DL-1 now that I can hook analogue inputs into. I just need a bunch of strain gauges and attachment equipment, a signal conditioner to amplify the gauge output to 0-5v, and a few different wings to test!

Sorry, it was bit confusing.

The test was: no wing vs Wing.

Graph Key:
Yellow: Wing
Blue: No Wing

Same day, one session apart (Blue was conducted later in the day with more less favorable conditions), with same driver (me).

If cthree's trunk lid isn't too mangled I'll hopefully get a chance to do this exact experiment at Mosport this coming weekend. G2X and all
