Default Hans vs no Hans crash

The below link to Youtube shows a side by side comparison of a Rally driver without a Hans and the navigator with a Hans. For those not using a Hans yet, maybe this will help to convince you.

I really want one even tho I only DE but the cost really pisses me off. They should not cost that much for something so god damn important.

I'm leaning towards a Simpson Hybrid Pro Rage system as they work independent of the seat belt/harness system and appear to be a little cheaper.

The sport version can be had for around $600. That's less than a two-day DE when you factor in sign up fees and consumables. I really don't think it's that hard to justify spending the money on something so "god damn important".

If they costed around your typical SA2010 helmet I'm sure everyone would have one. But they don't so not everyone will buy them.

If you can afford to track your car on a regular basis then you can afford a Hans device.

Clearly not true as the high majority of DE drivers that I see do not wear Hans devices.

Why does it cost so much, is it a patent thing preventing competition from making it available cheaper?
