Default hard tops on the track

do owners with hard tops use them at the track or take them off to save weight?

I bought my Mugen hardtop for running at the track.

If I end up attending NASA's track days at Mid-Ohio this April, I'll be running with the top on. Though NASA's insurance allows the S2000 to run topless, I think the extra protection is worth it. Mind you, my goal is not to make the best lap time, but to learn to handle my car better, so weight won't be a real factor for me.

I bought the hardtop specifically because of the track. I have a custom rollbar under the hardtop and between the two of them I have added something like 85 pounds. I do about 4 schools per year and I'm also an instructor. I don't even think about the "performance" I may have lost by the added weight because when it comes right down to it, the only thing holding me back from a lap time that is much faster, is a bigger set of b_-_-_- s ......

thanks guys, I just drove with mine on at the motorsports ranch last weekend. the improved visibility is significant, not to mention the improved protection and decrease in noise.Gerry

jss2k-

Is that the OEM hardtop in the pic above? That has a *HUGE* rear window. The one thing I hate most about the ragtop is the decreased visibility. The picture of the Mugen top that I saw looked like it had a small window, too. But, if the OEM top has that much window in it, it might be worth getting.

Does anyone know of any lightweight tops with a large rear window? How much does the OEM top weigh?

-Marcus.

Don't fool yourself the hardtop isn't any more safe. If you go over it's likely to pop right off.

It is lighter (if you remove the ragtop) and has less drag.

I always run on the track w/ my rag top up.

mxt, the difference in visability with the hardtop is huge. i had my hardtop on for about six weeks and just took it off a couple days ago. i forgot how little visability i had with the ragtop until i put it back up.

krazik, maybe it will and maybe it won't. depending on the circumstances it might help and that is enough for me. plus, ths sound reverberates much nicer with the hardtop on than the ragtop.
