Default Headlight gutting-replace with standard bulb

I am looking to try this in an effort to shave weight but still have operable headlights. I wasthinking just throwing in a standard headlight bulb, would this work? Anybody tried this?

Haha I could definitely lose a few punds for sure...but yes it's a race car, I'd say 75% gutted and I'm doing fabrication and assembly work now. The ballast and other crap was actually fairly heavy and I figured it might save 15 lbs. or so to convert. Have you ever heard of doin this?

Would it be easier to remove the HID part and then convert the high beam to low beam and just run without a high beam. Or maybe you can convert the high to a low/high bulb and wire the one light to do both?

Pics of your car?

I would rather keep the HID but if you really wanna cut weight I guess so...

Would ap1 headlights fit in there?

Yeah, it's an AP1 but I don't have the original lights, sold em couple years ago. I was thinking of just buying new housings/lenses and using a standard bulb setup (whatever that may look like in reality). Trust me I dig the HID projectors but they just won't be needed for what I'm looking for.

i agree with just using the high beam. just aim the beam down.

Yeah I didn't see that post until just now, that is a great idea. That would keep the look, shave weight and keep functioning lights, good call.

I'll give it a shot and see how she goes.
