heel toe?
Strike- the videos all show that they are using HT. I think that was my point, HT allows you to brake hard, quickly disengage the clutch, stay on brake pressure, blip throttle to match revs, shift, smoothly engage the clutch, and back on throttle. Slow clutch engagement is a technique to mask miss matched revs. And you have to do that when you know you have missed...ask me how I know.
racerboy- I don't think I ever mentioned locking the rear during braking...if I do lock up the brakes, front, rear or all 4, I have applied too much brake pressure...or something is wrong with the car either mechanical or setup. I personally don't belive that ABS has anything to do with downshifting techniques...ABS simply allows you to have a larger error margin for threshold braking. That is why it makes a world of differences in the rain.

Someone said something about feathering the clutch instead of HT.
When you're going hard and the turns are coming up fast, there is no time to feather. Also, if you don't have a good seat and harness and the Gs are high, you're not going to have enough stability and precision to feather.
HT is about rev matching. The better one is at it, the faster and clutch can be let out. Watch Keiichi in any of the Best Motoring or Hot Version videos. He's almost mechanical - sharp and fast.
A good rate of HT downshift is about 2 in about 1 second. But then this is partially dependent on how close the gear ratios are, and how fast the car is able to decelerate. One of the cars I drive is a '91 CRX - 5speed not so close ratio, and not so good braking, but still, 2 HTs (4-3-2) in 1 second is do-able. So most cars should be able to do that - if not faster. 6 speed Honda S2000? Certainly!
But then I can't think of a good reason to HT gear by gear (4-3-2) and not just HT directly to the gear you want (4-2). I do it gear by gear 4-3-2 just for the challenge. When I'm going all out and want to minimize risk of screwing anything up I go direct 4-2

I disagree about heel toeing only being useful after you have hit a plateau. It is a technique you can practice on the street and no matter how fast or slow you are it will help you be faster once you get it down.

Oh well, English is my second language...
