Default Height of Harness Bar

I am currently ordering a rollbar from Harddog, and I have to give him a number for the height of the harness bar. I really have no clue, I just know it should be no more than 20degrees from the shoulder. D

oes anyone who have this bar can chime in a give me a number on the height of the rollbar (say, from the top of the main hoop)?

Thanks

Reason I'm asking too is because I don't have my car with me at the moment while I am making this order.... stupid I know, but here is what im stuck with.

I'm running a pretty low seat. Bride ZETAIII with Taitec rails on the lowest position.

Thanks.

It depends on your shoulder.

Also, keep in mind that with a HANS you want the harness bar slightly below your shoulder height, while for a non-HANS setup the ideal angle is dead flat horizontal.

Thanks Mike.

So I ended up just emailing Harddog a picture of my interior and told him to make the harness bar slightly lower (1") than the harness guides. Should work out fine like that.

lol, which bar did you go with?

I picked up Andrew's dual diagnal over the weekend. Sure is nice having that bulkhead already fixed up for the 6pt. I just need to drill the floor now

Who's doing your install? Maybe we should have an install party. Jasonoff has done it before and there are a couple other local guys.

I'm glad that someone picked up Andrew's bar quickly. I felt bad backing out on the deal last minute. I ended up going with the single diagonal only, and I plan to take out the bulkhead entirely. I am not running a 6 pt harness anyways.

I am actually moving back to the west coast, so I may just do the installation there since I dont want to be bother with shipping a bulkhead across Canada, and I would like to keep some OEM parts, just in case. Oh I didnt know Jason had a rollbar too! Either way, it's good to hear that more people are running this bar now. When are you hitting up the track next season?

The harness bar should be roughly 8" off the back deck. As Mike pointed out though, ultimately the best heighth is determined by how tall you sit in the seat. FWIW, I have Taitec rails and a Sparco Rev seat. Ideally, you'd also like the harness bar as close to the seat as possible in order to reduce belt stretching upon impact.

BKL just posted a question in the PNW forum asking about local custom bar manufacturers. So maybe that means the Harddog bar is no longer on the table anyway.

A couple of circumsances came up which actaully freed up some more options for me, so the decision is open once again.

well, i have the standard harddog version with all the addons. i can tell you the standard bar is way too high (it was made to clear the interior plastics), however, of course, that's better than being too low. if you want, i can do some measurements and give you the delta from the stock bar height to be perfectly horizontal with my shoulders. that should tell harddog where to place it.

i have a bride zeta iii seat, and it's mounted about one adjustment more reclined than straight on bride rails. i'm 5'11".

anyway, i just ordered a teamtech jet pilot harness, and i was talking to the guy (good friends with the manufacturer/inventor), and he was telling me about an incident he was in--he apparently hit a wall at 170mph and had the harness mounted at ~20deg below horizontal. and yup, like they warn you, it compressed his spine. he didn't get into it too much, but i guess he was thankful he was still alive and from what i gather he had very bad injuries to his back from that incident because the harness was mounted below horizontal, even mildly. something to keep in mind. above is better than below.
