Default Help with bolt/nut on bottom of struts...

Some of the nuts welded to my Koni Yellows were bad and I cut them off. Currently using the nut's I cut off my old stock shocks but I haven't driven it any where but around the block. Was able to torque them to the required spec while holding the nut in place. Continued to torque a little more to see if the nut would move, I thought it would hold it's position, but it turned with the bolt.

Is this safe to drive? Is there and OEM nut I can order and use instead?

Thanks guys

What did you torque it down to?
If you don't feel comfortable you can put another nut on it or use some blue locktite..
They're shocks though not struts.

If you hold the nut with a second wrench, it won't turn when you try to torque it.

I would strongly recommend using new nuts, and not nuts that you cut off of a shock fork. Go to www.mcmaster.com and order yourself a box of nice grade 8 12x1.25mm nylon-insert style lock nuts.

47 ft lbs

I think I'll try and find some OEM nuts for this bolt and use the locktite. Thanks for the suggestion.

When I installed them, I only used one large washer under each dust cover. The instructions that come with the Koni's are very vague and there was an option for installing them that way or one for using two washers; one on top of the dust cover and one below it. Should I have used two? I believe the stock uses two, one above and one below? Do I have to use both or am I okay with just one?

I did hold it with a second wrench until I hit 47 ft lbs. Then I took the second wrench off and torqued it a tiny bit more, expecting the nut not to rotate, but it did. I figured this would mean it would loosen up after some driving...

Thanks for the link, I will definitely order new nuts as I have already picked up new OEM bolts. The bolts have a 10 stamped on the head, this isn't related to the grade 8 nuts you are suggesting is this? Sorry for the dumb questions...

Thanks guys

The 10 stamped on the head may be related to the grade of the bolt, but I don't really know what it means. I am pretty sure that the shock bolts are M12x1.25. The nuts you found are M10x1.25. You want the same thing in a M12x1.25.

you are correct, the nuts that you will require are M12, 1.25 pitch nuts. You can also find these at your local honda dealership by inquiring about the same Shock Tower-Lower Control Arm nuts found on the Honda Odyssey (they are also M12 1.25)

Cool, I already have some on order from mcmasatercarr but if I can run out and pick these up today I would. Do you know the specific OEM part number? Or at least what year Odyssey I should tell them I need the nut for?

Thanks
