Default Help me with trailer hitch

I got a 00 Honda Passport from my uncle, did some research online and found out this guy could handle 4500lb max towing. I installed a 7500lb towing tranny cooler on it yesterday, and trying to find a trailer hitch for it.

My car is about 2500lb or less weight now(I guess), and I am keeping my eyes on full alum trailer, which should be under 2000lb. The best I could find is class III hitch, which is about 3500 towing and 5000 weight dist(I don't really understand what is that mean). There are different designs, like square tube and round tube, since they are about same spec, which design is better? From looking I felt round tube should be more stronger, my passport is door mount rear tire, so both square and round tube should fit on it.

so please help me out and give me some idea.

Btw, I will only use this for temporary, like once a month for half year? And get a bigger truck.

What about tow the car without trailer for half a year? What about car dolly that I saw at U-haul just tow the front tires.

Cuz I have to buy a trailer for my business anyway, and I always want a trailer

Actually I have a lot friends going with us every event, just want to have a trailer incase any of them have problem with their car or accident. Both me and my dad have AAA 100miles towing, and we used all 8 tows in past 7 months, crazy. Plus my dad wants to get a light boat once we get the hitch installed.

But anyway, thank you guys for opinons, happy new year and track safe

3500 lbs. towing means that it will pull that weight. 5000 lbs. weight distribution means it will pull that weight if you use weight distribution bars. Those bars conect to the trailer via chain and to your hitch to transfer tounge weight to the front of the tow vehicle. You should be fine with the hitch speced for your passport to pull an alluminum trailer with your S stapped down. I wouldn't go much heavier than that with a passport because it has small brakes, suspension and a short wheel base. Although the trailer should come with electric brakes. Don't ferget to check the weight capacity of the ball and reciever too. I hope this helps.

For sure it helps, thanks a lot. A WD kit cost twice more than hitch hahaha, I will try the hitch first, if it doesn't feel safe, I will get a WD kit.

Thanks again, and again happy new year guys
