So i have done tons of research and i cant come to a decision on what i want to do. I currently have 1 year old ATE slotted front rotors and old oem rear rotors with OEM brake pads front and rear.

I was with a friend on some back roads and noticed that at higher speeds i would get some shudder from the front and once i got the brakes hotter, i was getting it in the rear as well(once they cooled down shudder was less noticeable). I have narrowed my problem down to the oem pads transferring material onto my rotors so the pads are definitely getting replaced. With the slotted rotors in the front, should i just slap new pads(carbotech AX6) or replace the rotor(it will have to be an oem rotor if i swap it out).

I just cant make up my mind and i figured some of you guys have experienced this. I know all new rotors and pads will fix my problems but i have already upgraded to slotted front rotors.

Side info: i will be tracking/autoxing my car this spring. I have already dropped the coin on 235/265 Z1 Star Specs($$regretting buying 18" wheels now$$), Goodridge lines,and Motul RBF600 fluid. Thats why im looking for a cost efficient fix.

 

In before the move (good candidate for the "S2000 Brakes" subforum since your usage is street only at this time).

And replace all four rotors with Centric blanks for < $150 total.

i have done autocross a few times. I like it but i want something alittle more...yanno?? I'm dying to get on a track

I'd say i put it in the right place. I'm asking for some positive opinions regarding my brakes for competition. If it were for street i would just deal with it.

 

I'm pretty sure that 9:10 people are going to tell you to get new rotors and / or pads and install them yourself.

There's really no discussion here. It's not worth the time or effort to f'k with juddering brakes. Especially as it means you may have hotspots, grooves and / or inefficient braking.

I replace rotors 1-2 times per season autocrossing.
Track people can go through a set of rotors in a weekend.

1-year old ATE fronts and very old OEM rears... you might as well be asking how to save your S02s....

 

Anyone going through a set of rotors in a weekend needs to reconsider their brake setup.

 

i think if your burning through them that fast, you'd better have the autozone replacement warranty! Thats my plan, 2 year replacement IIRC.

 

I agree with you too. We can get 2-3 solid weekends out of our s2k before i replace OEM discs from track use.

I have had some shutter on slotted discs before too. I stick with blank disks, or AP racing slotted discs. both work well for us
