Default Cooling Ideas for track cars

I just came across a couple pictures of the new Corvette's oil cooler. Just curious if anyone here has run cooler the same way ever.

You could certainly run one there, although you'd sacrifice front downforce compared to having a flat undertray in the same location. And although you avoid blocking the radiator, you're also venting high pressure cool air from the grille area before it has a chance to touch the radiator.

For me you’d mount this on the S after the radiators where the plastic OEM trim is, near the front sway bar is also.

are you talking about the thing circled in green? thats a second radiator, not an oil cooler. the oil cooler is a water to oil unit circled in red... right next to the cat... but hey it works

back to the original question, I haven't run it yet, but I plan on running an oil cooler mounted like this in my miata with a puller fan on the top side. the Miata radiator is angled forward so it kinda kills 2 birds in the cooling department since it'll be pushing more air there too. I plan on adding a pretty heavy duty grill in below the cooler so it doesn't get broken and spill oil all over the track and kill my engine and cause me to spin out and hit a wall head on

another thing to note is that just a plain flat bottom isn't necessarily good for aero, you need to design the proper tunnels and fins and stuff for it to be effective. In fact flat bottoms became a thing when rulebooks started requiring flat bottoms to limit downforce. not saying flat bottoms are a bad thing, but adding a cooler like this isn't exactly gonna kill your aero on an otherwise stockish bottom s2k.

If you can add a vertical fan, why not make it very powerful?

There are small jet engines sold for hobby people. You could fit a couple in the trunk. Can't say the thought hadn't crossed my mind.

U can easily make an oil cooler like that and get the air from under the car. I'm surprised u need one for an na car.

As in that Corvette, the best solution is undoubtedly an oil/water heat exchanger plumbed into the cooling system with attention to the front ducting to get the air evenly through the radiator and exhausting either into a low pressure area at the front of the hood. The goal should be to minimize the cooling system's adverse effects on the airflow under or over the car.

kinda what I was getting at, summit sells a 10" fan that flows 2350 cfm... idk if that's enough or how well it'll work without being really close to the ground, but imma try...

based on what I've seen on here, NA s2k's get in the 290's for oil temp on track, thats too hot in my book... I mean technically its still within the spec for most quality synthetics, but being somewhere in the 220-250 range would be a lot better
