How long did you AutoX
Hey there,
looking to gauge the forum. I posted the other day about some damage (don’t worry, it was minor) from Ax. Some of the advice I got was to order the replacement parts but save them for when I was done with Ax. So my question is, how long have you, did you, or have been doing Ax?

17 years for me now. And started going to the track about 6 years ago. I have not attended as many autox events in the past couple of years for various reasons but have no intention of stopping. I have kind of paused my autosports stuff for the early part of this season for unrelated reasons but hopefully getting back out there late spring. The only thing that makes me do less of one or the other is time mostly. I used to hit 12 local autocrosses, spring nates and nationals. But given that I also do HPDE and plan to start TT this year, I have to balance the time and consumables

I’ll have to check out your car.
On-Off since 2012 when I was a senior in High School and in a S2K since 2013
From 2016-2019 took a hiatus and 2022 to 2024 now I've stopped going to locals as our venues genuinely are not worth it.
I still have an S2K in the fleet, but autocross and track my C5Z now as consumables are similar cost, but they last a bit longer and standard operating costs are lower SOMEHOW.

8 years. Always planned to transition to track when I started. Got hooked more than I expected and realized how $$ track is. Did a few Track Night in Americas and while it's a lot of fun, Auto-X is close to as fun in a similar but different way. The S isn't that exciting on long straight aways.
I ran a bunch of national events last year and made a first effort at competing nationally. Was lots of fun and really makes you respect how good people are and can be at the top of the sport.
Since the S is homeless, my former STR car is now setup for Tuner 4 SCCA time trials. I've only done about 5 track days so far and working my way up to Advanced to move to TT. Track is fun but $$$.

I will be doing TT with NASA. I have run HPDE with them and have already actually done my driving portion to move to TT, just need to do one more HPDE 4 event to do so. Long story on how that happened out of order, but in short, instructor was chasing and videoing me around the track because he thought I was my friend who also has a yellow AP1. That turned into a funny conversation and then turned into that being my driving check for moving to TT this year. It was actually quite funny. I am pretty excited to run with them though. At the last event, I was .5 sec off 1st place in TT5 (Their HPDE and TT run on the same days, just alternating betwen them) with them on hoosiers, me on 200TW street tires so now I really have the itch to compete with them ! Of course with my luck, I will start and some crazy fast driver will join in too, but I enjoy the competition more than what place I end in (Same with autox) but it should be a fun season once I get back out there.
SCCA has a pretty good TT program too. I have friends that run with them.
I too started doing track events through the SCCA track night in America program. Very affordable way to get track time. I was a volunteer up in MN for a few years for them too, then moved down to MO and did most of the events at Heartland until it closed last year.

Yeah I am playing around with the various mod factors in NASA TT to see if I can NOT run Hoosiers lol. That is when it really gets up there in cost. If I run lower cost tires, I can then shed more weight or add more power. The latter would be as expensive as just running more tire, but I am seeing how much weight I can reasonably dump without getting rid of stuff I want so not sure I can make full use of that. May just end up running Hoosiers for comp events and just running one less event or something to keep costs in check.
starting line = $265
re71rs = $700
helmet = $99
10x local events = $350
so I’ll have spent about $1500 autoX this year. Next year I may add a
Karcepts front bar - $1000
Carbotech Xp10 - $300
TNIA. - $165
National Tour -$145
10x local events -$350
i may get a real exhaust at some point but all things considered, that is a pretty affordable way to enjoy what your S does well. Not to mention, the Ax crowd is a fun crowd.
