Please

There's much more trouble to be gotten into with more grip. With less grip, the speeds and limits are less, better lesson in car control.

True, as long as the driver moderates his/her speed.

Which if it's their first time on the track they are sure to.

Look, it's all relative but all things being equal, I'd rather be on worn S-02s in that situation than say, worn Federals There's no reason for this person to run out and buy new tires for their first ever track day.

Keep in mind, it's not just a performance issue, it's also a reliability issue as well.

At 9,700 miles, all 4 of my tires are worn almost all the way through. I think they may last 3-4 sessions, but I would be sliding all over the racetrack. I would have to point everyone by.

I now find myself in almost the same situation. For track events here I just put on my R-compounds and drive there, and if it is rainy, I go slower, no big deal.

However I'm doing Fall Colors and I will not drive all the way there on my R-compounds, so I will be doing a track event on S-02s. The backs on my car are great, I replaced them last fall and they have plenty of tread. The problem is the fronts. They are worn on the outside edge from the negative camber of the 1st summer and are now worn on the inner edge from this year's negative camber. I'm just now starting to hear them chirp under hard braking and I can feel the ABS working, when in reality if I had better tread I think the ABS would be off.

If I buy new S-02s now they will have less than a 1,000 miles on them before Fall Colors, are they going to chunk?

Will the track workout heat the front tires up to a point where they will pick up more grip and not feel like they do on the street?

What if it rains one of the days he's out there?

It does rain back here you know...
Rain is another story. I run shaved r comps on the track, it if it rains I'm parking the car. You would want full treads in the rain but aren't we straying a bit from the original question?
