How often do you rebuild calipers?

Greg, what pads are you running? I didn't have issues going through dust boots when I was on OEM calipers.

RSXLNT, do you mean "four sets of pads"? I wouldn't think rebuilding calipers 4 times in 9 days is normal for even hard track use.
Four sets of calipers. The rubber keeps melting off from around the piston.

hondaf1, if I browsed your post (great job!!!) correct, the upgrade would be ~$800 (2xcalipers plus 2xRB slotted rotors). Benefits (other then better brake bias with R-comp tires) are longer pad life, rotor life, and time between rebuilds (due to piston boot failure). Downsides are added unsprung weight (though lower rotating weight) and a lighter wallet (initial plus new rotors every ~25 days).

Does this sound right?
you don't have to use RB two piece rotors if you want to keep the budget low. you can use stock s2k rotors with 1mm shims. Rob Robinette is using the Accord caliper with OE rotor, and so are many other because i sold at least 5 sets of shims.

the RB replacement rotor rings is $200 each.

Anybody have a link to the FRONT caliper rebuild? I read the DIY thread on the rears and searched YouTube. This will be my first try and really don't want to get anything wrong. It's just my brakes...

Voodoo_S2k, I'm running Carbotech XP12 in front, and installed brake vents after rebuilding the calipers. Boots were burnt after the first dry track day (on R-comp tires). I'm moving to Cobalt XR-1 once I finish with the XP12s (I eeked 1 more track day out of one set by switching outer and inner pads to take advantage of the tapering).

You can run without the dust boot and rebuild the inner seal every year or 6 months depending on use.

Wow. I have only tracked and raced my car for 4years and haven't had any of these issues. I have replaced my rotors 7-8 times and have gone thru many more pads. I have brake ducting and I rarely run my pads much past halfway. There's always a race ahead and I always race with a lot of pad. I have replaced my front calipers one time only because I had a second set and my rubber was pretty toasted, but my brakes always held upwell. I treat my brakes like the oil in my motor. I never take chances with them. I am constantly bleeding and changing brake fluid etc.

I am seeing a good amount of surface rust on the calipers. I live across from the ocean in salty south Florida. Do you guys see this surface rust? Should I scotch brite it off or leave it alone?

Go drive the car and apply the brakes. Surface rust is normal everywhere
